List of products by brand DOMAINE ALBERT MOROT

Established across 8 hectares of south-east-facing slopes in Beaune, Côte-d'Or, Domaine Albert Morot is one of the appellation's most enduring addresses, with roots stretching back to 1820. In 2023, Guillaume and Sophie Poitrinal took over the estate, bringing in Rhône-trained winemaker Pierre-Jean Villa to steer a new course — one that honours the estate's Burgundian heritage while bringing fresh precision to its limestone, sandy and clay soils, farmed organically since the 2015 vintage. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the rigour of its organic conversion, the clarity of its Pinot Noir reds and the freshness of its Chardonnay whites, each a faithful expression of Beaune's varied terroirs. A dependable reference for those seeking Burgundy at its most parcel-true.

Founded in 1820 as a négociant house, Domaine Albert Morot represents two centuries of unbroken presence on the Beaune appellation. Since 2023, under the stewardship of the Poitrinal family, the estate has entered a new chapter — one rooted in organic farming and a more precise, parcel-by-parcel approach to viticulture.

Two centuries of history, one decisive turning point

Few estates in Burgundy can claim a lineage as long as that of Domaine Albert Morot. Established in 1820 at a time when Beaune was already cementing its reputation as the commercial heart of the Côte-d'Or, the estate has witnessed the full arc of modern Burgundian winemaking — from the consolidation of the appellation system to the slow revolution of organic and low-intervention viticulture. For much of its history it operated as a négociant house, sourcing and vinifying wines from across the region before gradually refocusing on its own vineyard holdings. That long institutional memory gives the estate a depth of understanding of its terroirs that no amount of ambition alone can replicate.

Terroir: limestone, sand and clay on south-east slopes

The estate's 8 hectares sit on the south-east-facing hillsides that define the best of the Beaune appellation, in the heart of the Côte-d'Or. Soils vary meaningfully from parcel to parcel — limestone, sand, clay and silt each play their part, lending the wines a textural range that rewards attention. The south-east exposure ensures reliable ripening while preserving the freshness that is the hallmark of fine Burgundy. It is precisely this mosaic of soil types that makes parcel-level viticulture so rewarding here, and so central to the estate's current philosophy under Guillaume and Sophie Poitrinal.

Organic farming and a new winemaking voice

The estate's conversion to organic agriculture began in earnest with the 2015 vintage, and full certification has since been achieved — a commitment that speaks to a long-term vision rather than a marketing gesture. To lead the winemaking, the Poitrinals brought in Pierre-Jean Villa, a vinificateur with a background in the Rhône Valley. His arrival introduces a perspective shaped by a different terroir tradition, one that complements rather than overrides the Burgundian character of the wines. The result is a range that feels both grounded in its appellation and quietly open to new thinking.

The wine range

Domaine Albert Morot produces both red and white wines from its Beaune holdings, working with the two great grape varieties of Burgundy:

  • Beaune Rouge (Pinot Noir) — precise, terroir-driven reds with clarity of fruit and a firm but elegant structure, reflecting the limestone and clay soils of the south-east slopes.
  • Beaune Blanc (Chardonnay) — fresh, mineral whites that express the cooler, sandier parcels with characteristic Burgundian restraint and length.

Why we have selected Domaine Albert Morot

At Halles Quercamps, we are drawn to producers who combine genuine historical depth with a clear-eyed commitment to quality — and Domaine Albert Morot offers both. The rigour of its organic conversion since 2015 is not incidental: it reflects a decision to farm with the long term in mind, and it shows in the wines' precision and vitality. The arrival of Pierre-Jean Villa adds an intriguing dimension, bringing a winemaker's curiosity to one of Beaune's most storied addresses. We list this estate for confirmed Burgundy enthusiasts who value parcel-level expression over house style, and who appreciate wines that reward cellaring. At the table, the Pinot Noirs are well suited to roast guinea fowl or aged comté, while the Chardonnays pair beautifully with grilled turbot or a fine terrine de campagne.
