Deep roots in Saint-Émilion

First recorded in 1763, Château Jean Faure is among the most historically documented estates in the appellation. Olivier Decelle acquired it in 2004 and undertook a thorough renewal of both vineyard and cellars. His efforts were rewarded in 2012, when the château was reinstated as a Grand Cru Classé de Saint-Émilion — one of the right bank's most compelling revival stories.

Terroir: clay, gravel, and ferruginous sand

The 18 hectares cover a mosaic of clay, gravel, and ferruginous sand at up to 40 metres altitude. Cabernet Franc plays a leading role alongside Merlot and a proportion of Malbec — an unusual inclusion in Saint-Émilion that adds texture and depth. Well-drained gravelly soils and heavier clay sections together deliver wines with both freshness and structure.

Organic and biodynamic certification

Château Jean Faure obtained organic certification in 2017, then achieved full Demeter biodynamic certification in 2023. Biodynamic viticulture demands a complete rethinking of vineyard management — lunar calendars, herbal preparations, zero synthetic inputs — resulting in greater soil microbial life, more resilient vines, and wines that speak more clearly of their terroir.

The château produces exclusively red wines under the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé appellation:
