List of products by brand CHATEAU CROIX DE LABRIE

Situated at Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes in the Saint-Émilion appellation, Château Croix de Labrie farms 5 hectares under certified organic and biodynamic principles, with yields held to 30 hl/ha. Founded in 1991 by Michel and Ghislaine Puzio-Lesage, the château was taken over in 2013 by Axelle and Pierre Courdurié, who have shaped it into one of Bordeaux's most committed garage-wine addresses: carefully mapped parcels across clay-limestone, sandy and gravelly soils, and precise, low-intervention winemaking. At Halles Quercamps, we selected this château for its rigorous biodynamic approach, the character of its fragmented terroirs, and the aromatic precision of its reds — a compelling case for Saint-Émilion beyond the classified hierarchy. A confidential address worth following.

Château Croix de Labrie represents, from the heights of Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes, a demanding and parcel-driven vision of Saint-Émilion: 5 hectares farmed biodynamically, yields deliberately contained, and the independent spirit of a true garage wine producer — a philosophy upheld with conviction since the estate changed hands in 2013.

From garage wine movement to biodynamic benchmark

The château was founded in 1991 by Michel and Ghislaine Puzio-Lesage, at a time when the so-called vins de garage were quietly reshaping the perception of Bordeaux. The movement championed small-scale, meticulous viticulture over volume and prestige, and Château Croix de Labrie was very much part of that spirit from the outset. In 2013, Axelle and Pierre Courdurié took over the property and deepened its ambitions considerably, converting the estate to certified organic and biodynamic farming — a certification formally obtained in 2021. Their approach is one of careful observation and minimal intervention, guided by the rhythms of the biodynamic calendar and a close reading of each individual parcel.

A mosaic of terroirs across three distinct parcels

For a property of just 5 hectares, the diversity of soils at Château Croix de Labrie is striking. The plateau of Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes is characterised by argilo-calcaire à astéries — a clay-limestone soil rich in fossilised starfish fragments, typical of the Right Bank's finest positions. The Badon parcel brings a different register: sandy limestone interspersed with crasse de fer, the iron-rich hardpan that lends a particular mineral tension to the wines. The Le Cateau parcel, meanwhile, sits on gravel and blue clay, adding depth and structural complexity. Together, these three distinct soil profiles, spread across plateau and hillside exposures, give the winemaking team a rich palette to work with — and a compelling argument for parcel-by-parcel vinification.

Organic and biodynamic viticulture, low yields

Château Croix de Labrie holds full organic certification and practises biodynamic viticulture across its holdings. Yields are capped at 30 hl/ha — well below the appellation average — ensuring concentration and precision in every vintage. The grape varieties planted are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, the classic Right Bank trio, each variety finding its most sympathetic expression in the soils best suited to it.

The wines of Château Croix de Labrie

The château produces exclusively red wines under the Saint-Émilion appellation. The range reflects the parcel-driven philosophy of the estate:

  • Saint-Émilion rouge — the estate's principal red, drawn from the three parcels at Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes, Badon, and Le Cateau; a wine of aromatic precision and genuine terroir character, shaped by biodynamic viticulture and restrained yields.

Why we have selected Château Croix de Labrie

At Halles Quercamps, we have been following the progress of Château Croix de Labrie with close attention. Three things set it apart in our view. First, the intellectual rigour of its biodynamic conversion: this is not a marketing label but a genuine commitment, visible in the vineyard and in the glass. Second, the complexity of its terroir mosaic — three parcels, three soil types, one coherent and expressive wine. Third, the independence of its positioning: Château Croix de Labrie sits outside the classified growth hierarchy, yet produces reds that hold their own against far more celebrated neighbours. We recommend these wines to confirmed Bordeaux enthusiasts who look beyond the classements for their cellar, and to those who appreciate the discipline of low-yield, biodynamic winemaking. At the table, the reds pair beautifully with roast lamb, duck confit, or a well-aged hard cheese.
