List of products by brand CLOS DES JACOBINS
Clos des Jacobins represents precisely what we look for in Saint-Émilion: a family château with deep roots, managed with real rigour across a geologically varied terroir, and committed to certified organic farming since the 2020 vintage. It is a property that rewards patience — in the cellar and in the glass.
Five generations at the helm of a Saint-Émilion château
The story of Clos des Jacobins begins in 1902, when Jean Jean acquired this parcel of Saint-Émilion and laid the foundations of what would become a five-generation family endeavour. That continuity is not merely a point of pride — it translates directly into an intimate knowledge of the land, accumulated over more than a century of harvests. Since 2010, Xavier Jean, the fifth generation, has led the château in partnership with the Joinaud-Borde family, bringing renewed energy and a clear commitment to quality and environmental responsibility. This transition marked a new chapter without breaking with the estate's character: the same respect for terroir, the same long-term vision, but with a sharper focus on sustainable viticulture.
A mosaic of soils across the Saint-Émilion plateau
Spread across 11 hectares, the vineyards of Clos des Jacobins sit on the eastern plateau and south-western slopes of Saint-Émilion, in the Gironde. The soils here are genuinely varied: limestone bedrock and clay-limestone dominate the higher ground, while molasse du Fronsadais and iron-rich sandy clay soils — known locally as crasse de fer — characterise the lower parcels. This geological diversity is one of the château's defining assets, lending complexity and layered texture to the wines. The principal grape variety is Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot — a blend well suited to the range of soil types across the property.
Certified organic farming since 2020
Clos des Jacobins obtained its Agriculture Biologique certification from the 2020 vintage, the culmination of a conversion process that reflects the family's long-term commitment to the land. Working without synthetic pesticides or herbicides, the team tends the vines in a way that preserves soil life and expresses the true character of each parcel. This is not a marketing exercise — it is a considered agronomic choice, consistent with the estate's philosophy of minimal intervention and respect for the appellation's terroir.
The wines of Clos des Jacobins
The château produces exclusively red wines under the Saint-Émilion appellation. The range is focused and coherent, built around the estate's Merlot-led blend with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot contributing structure and aromatic lift.
- Saint-Émilion rouge — the estate's principal red, drawing on the full mosaic of limestone, clay-limestone and iron-rich soils; structured, fruit-forward, with the depth that comes from organically farmed old vines.
Why we have selected Clos des Jacobins
At Halles Quercamps, we are drawn to producers who combine historical depth with genuine agronomic conviction. Clos des Jacobins ticks both: over 120 years of unbroken family ownership, a serious and fully certified organic conversion, and a terroir in Saint-Émilion of real geological interest. Xavier Jean's stewardship since 2010 has given the château a clear direction without sacrificing its identity. We recommend these wines to confirmed Bordeaux enthusiasts who look beyond the famous names for properties with character and integrity. They pair beautifully with roast lamb, duck confit, or a well-aged hard cheese — and will reward those with the patience to cellar them for five to ten years.
