Six generations of Loire vignerons, now practising biodynamic viticulture
- The Domaine has been farmed organically since the late 1990s and biodynamically since the early 2000s. Thierry Germain, himself born into a Bordeaux winemaking family, represents the sixth generation of vignerons and brings rigorous, thoughtful stewardship to these Loire vineyards.
- This cuvée exemplifies the marriage of fruit clarity with structural elegance. The wine possesses a purity and mineral expression that distinguishes it from more voluptuous Loire expressions, offering instead a cerebral, finely-drawn character.
- Clos de l'Echelier rewards patience. The wine's architecture—its balance of acidity, tannin and extract—suggests it will develop further complexity and refinement over the coming years, revealing deeper layers of terroir expression.

Breeding
Approximately 12 to 18 months in oval wooden vats of 12 to 25 hectolitres
On the eye
Vibrant red with violet reflections, showing good colour intensity and clarity.
On the nose
Elegant and restrained on the nose, with clear fruit expression: ripe cherry and strawberry, underpinned by mineral notes characteristic of the Loire's schist soils.
In the mouth
Ample and suave on the palate, with a silky mid-palate and a lifted, linear finish. The wine shows excellent balance between fruit, acidity and fine-grained tannin structure.
Where La Marginale represents power and opulence, Clos de l'Echelier embodies spirit and finesse. This is arguably Saumur's most Burgundian expression—a wine of remarkable straightness and elegance that recalls the finest terroirs of Chambolle-Musigny. It is cerebral, utterly pure, and represents the pinnacle of Thierry Germain's work with Cabernet Franc's mineral potential. Serve with grilled meats or fine poultry.

Domaine des Roches Neuves is a wine estate in the Saumur-Champigny appellation (Loire Valley), run by Thierry Germain. Around 28 hectares farmed biodynamically. Main grapes: Cabernet Franc (reds) and Chenin Blanc (whites). Limestone tuffeau soils. Cuvées: Terres Chaudes, Marginale, Franc de Pied. Wines of great precision and fine depth.
