- Owned by the Fayat family since 1976, alongside Château La Dominique (Grand Cru Classé Saint-Émilion) and Château Fayat in Pomerol. This heritage brings rigorous winemaking standards to Haut-Médoc.
- One of the Médoc's rare estates built on a Merlot majority. This choice of cépage gives the wine its distinctive softness and mid-palate generosity, departing from the region's traditional Cabernet-led profile.
- The élevage regime—combining barrel maturation with careful handling—preserves the wine's natural freshness and elegance, avoiding over-extraction or excessive oak influence.

In the mouth
Fresh and broad across the palate. The Merlot foundation delivers supple tannins and good mid-body weight, whilst acidity provides lift and definition. A wine with structure and balance.
On the nose
Ripe dark fruits—blackcurrant and plum—with cherry notes and a subtle toasted minerality on the finish. The bouquet develops gradually, showing good complexity.
On the eye
Deep garnet. Dense, well-coloured.
Breeding
12 months (50% in barrels of which 66% new oak and 40% of one wine, 50% in stainless steel vats)
This is a Cru Bourgeois that rewards patience. I find it particularly suited to beef—a grilled bavette with peppercorn sauce would be ideal—but it also works well with game and mature cheeses. The freshness Nicolas Fayat's team has preserved means it will age gracefully for 8–12 years, developing secondary complexity. A serious, unpretentious Haut-Médoc.
