Old vines from the foothills of Roussillon, shaped by sea and stone

  • The domaine commands 85 hectares in the foothills north-west of Perpignan, with 45 hectares of vines—some exceeding 120 years old. Positioned at 150–200 metres altitude, the vineyard benefits from significant maritime influence whilst overlooking the Mediterranean some 20 kilometres distant.
  • The terroir is characterised by sedimentary limestone to the north and primary schist to the south, often interwoven in vertical strata. This geological complexity encourages profound root penetration and mineral expression in the wine.
  • A domaine wine offered at merchant's terms through Les Halles de Quercamps, reflecting our direct relationship with this respected Roussillon producer.

Product features : Gauby Côtes du Roussillon Villages Vieilles Vignes 2014

In the mouth
Elegant fruit expression supported by fine-grained tannins and good structure. The finish is long and composed, with mineral grip that reflects the schist soils beneath the vines.
On the nose
Impressive intensity: dark berries and liquorice, with distinctive garrigue and spice aromatics. The bouquet speaks clearly of old vine concentration and southern terroir.
On the eye
Deep ruby red with good concentration
Breeding
10 months' élevage in 500L barrels, large wooden vats and concrete tanks, then 10 months' bottle ageing at the estate
M. Francois
I recommend this wine with game and rustic Catalan dishes—wild mushroom risotto, braised ham, or a proper daube. The old vines deliver the mineral backbone and aromatic complexity that make Roussillon reds so rewarding when matched thoughtfully to food. A wine that rewards patience in the glass.
