Old vine complexity from the Roussillon foothills

  • Domaine Gauby commands 85 hectares in the foothills northwest of Perpignan, with 45 hectares of vines—some reaching 120 years old. The vineyard sits between 150 and 200 metres altitude, benefiting from significant maritime influence some 20 kilometres from the Mediterranean.
  • The terroir combines sedimentary limestone to the north with Palaeozoic schist to the south, often intimately layered in vertical strata. This geological complexity encourages deep rooting and remarkable aromatic finesse.
  • Domaine Gauby's commitment to organic viticulture and low-intervention winemaking reflects a philosophy of terroir expression. We are pleased to offer this wine at grower's terms.

Product features : Domaine Gauby Côtes du Roussillon Vieilles Vignes Bio

In the mouth
Elegant fruit expression with fine-grained tannins and admirable structure. The finish is long and mineral, reflecting the limestone and schist beneath the vines.
On the nose
Striking intensity: fresh dark fruits, liquorice and garrigue, with white pepper and wild herb notes characteristic of the Roussillon scrubland
On the eye
Deep ruby red
Breeding
10 months' élevage in 500L barrels, large wooden vats and concrete tanks, then 10 months' bottle ageing at the estate
M. Francois
This is a wine of considerable character—old vines and low yields deliver concentration without heaviness. I find it particularly rewarding with Catalan game dishes: wild boar, braised ham, or a proper daube. The garrigue notes also complement mushroom risotto beautifully. Drink now or hold for five years with confidence.
