Merlot 70%, Cabernet-Franc, Cabernet-Sauvignon, Malbec, Carmenère

A defining voice of Bordeaux's garage wine movement

  • Classified Premier Grand Cru Classé B in 2012, Valandraud represents the ambition and precision that characterises the finest small-production Saint-Émilion estates. The wine demonstrates the terroir's capacity for depth and refinement.
  • Solid tannin structure and concentration define the palate, with the wine built to age gracefully. The élevage in new oak is restrained, allowing the fruit and mineral character to remain prominent rather than dominate.
  • The wine shows the hallmarks of serious Saint-Émilion: a marriage of Merlot's richness with Cabernet Franc's elegance, resulting in a wine of complexity and balance rather than mere power.

Product features : Château Valandraud Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 75cl

In the mouth
Rich and profoundly complex, with a fine-grained tannin structure that speaks to careful extraction and élevage. The palate is deep, with length and a dry, elegant finish that invites contemplation rather than immediate gratification.
On the nose
Ripe dark fruits—plum and blackcurrant—mingle with spice, liquorice and subtle toasted oak notes. The bouquet is layered and evolves with aeration, revealing mineral undertones characteristic of the terroir.
On the eye
Deep garnet, with a lustrous rim suggesting maturity and stability in the glass.
Breeding
In barrels (predominantly new oak) for approximately 20 months
M. Francois
I have long admired Valandraud for its refusal to follow fashion. This is a wine of genuine substance—one that rewards patience in the cellar and pairs beautifully with game, particularly roasted quail with seasonal vegetables. It exemplifies why Saint-Émilion remains one of the world's great appellations.
