Altitude 228: where elevation shapes elegance

  • Eight generations of family winemaking at Domaine Laurent Miquel have refined the art of coaxing character from Languedoc's finest terroirs. This heritage informs every decision in the vineyard and cellar.
  • A wine of genuine balance: the natural richness of Viognier, matured in oak, is tempered by the saline minerality imparted by altitude and chalk-rich soils, creating tension and refinement.
  • A versatile companion to fine dining. Equally at home with noble fish, foie gras, white meats, and aged cheeses, this wine elevates the table without demanding centre stage.

Breeding
In stainless steel on fine lees
On the eye
Intense golden yellow, bright and luminous in the glass.
On the nose
White flowers and stone fruit—peach and apricot—interwoven with gentle spice and a mineral undertone that speaks of the vineyard's elevation.
In the mouth
Viognier's characteristic richness unfolds in the mid-palate, then yields gracefully to a saline, mineral finish. The altitude and calcareous soil assert themselves with precision, lending the wine remarkable purity and definition.
M. Francois
Cote 228 demonstrates how altitude serves white varieties in Languedoc. This is a wine of genuine class and mineral purity. The interplay between fruit generosity and saline restraint is expertly judged. Splendid with turbot, sole, or langoustine; equally fine with foie gras, roasted chicken, and mature Comté or Gruyère.

DOMAINE LAURENT MIQUEL

Based in Cessenon-sur-Orb in the Hérault, Domaine Laurent Miquel farms 200 hectares under certified organic agriculture across the Languedoc appellation. A winemaking family since 1791, Laurent — a trained engineer — took over in 1996 as the eighth generation and made history as the first producer to grow Albariño in France. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the coherence of its viticultural project, the diversity of its terroirs — limestone at Cazal Viel, clay-limestone at Auzines — and the precision of its reds, whites, and rosés. A benchmark address for anyone wishing to explore the full depth of the Languedoc.
