Noble rot elegance from the Garonne valley

  • Situated in the heart of Sauternes, Château Haut-Bergeron benefits from the morning mists generated by the Garonne and Ciron rivers. These conditions are ideal for botrytis cinerea—noble rot—which concentrates grape sugars and creates the foundation for great liquoreux wines.
  • Sémillon provides richness and unctuousness whilst Sauvignon Blanc contributes freshness and acidity, balancing the wine's natural sweetness. This harmonious blend yields a Sauternes that is both generous and refined, with notable liveliness.
  • Drink young for its fruited brightness, or cellar for decades. With age, this wine develops increasingly complex aromas of honey, dried fruits, and saffron, deepening its character and complexity.

Breeding
Aged in oak barrels for 18 to 24 months, imparting additional vanilla and spice aromas whilst preserving the wine's fruit freshness
On the eye
Intense golden robe with brilliant, luminous reflections
On the nose
Expressive and layered bouquet: exotic fruits, preserved apricot, honey, beeswax, and delicate floral notes. The aromatics are both rich and refined.
In the mouth
Unctuous and silken on the palate, with concentrated flavours of candied fruits—apricot and peach—alongside honey, marmalade, and white flowers. Spiced notes and a subtle almond finish provide complexity. The lengthy finish balances sweetness with elegant acidity.
M. Francois
A Sauternes of considerable finesse. Excellent with desserts, blue cheeses such as Roquefort, or foie gras. The interplay of candied fruit aromas, silky texture, and equilibrium between sweetness and freshness makes this a benchmark liquoreux. Approachable now for its fruited vivacity, yet capable of developing greater depth over several decades of cellaring.

CHATEAU HAUT-BERGERON

At Preignac, in the heart of the Sauternes appellation, Château Haut-Bergeron covers 37 hectares of clay-gravel and clay-limestone soils, farmed organically. Founded in 1756 and in the Lamothe family since 1820, this is a château shaped by nine generations of dedication to the great sweet wines of Bordeaux — a commitment reflected in 118 medals, 68 of them gold, awarded since 1964. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the consistency of its quality over time, the integrity of its organic approach, and the typicity of its Sauternes, which balance concentration with genuine freshness. A dependable reference for lovers of fine Bordeaux liquoreux.
