  • A harmonious blend of three Loire Valley varieties: Pinot Noir, Gamay and Côt. The vieilles vignes selection brings greater concentration and textural refinement than younger plantings.
  • A wine of genuine substance for the table. Its silky tannins and ripe red fruit make it an excellent companion to charcuterie, grilled meats and robust fare.
  • Purchased directly from the domaine, this wine represents genuine value. Les Halles de Quercamps' long-standing relationship with the producer allows us to offer it at proprietary terms.

Product features : Domaine Sauger Cheverny Rouge Vieilles Vignes 2020

Breeding
Ageing of 10 to 12 months, principally in stainless steel to preserve fruit purity, though a portion of the cuvée may be matured in oak barrels (often from multiple vintages) to soften the tannins and add complexity without excessive oakiness.
On the eye
Bright, vivid red with good depth of colour.
On the nose
An intense and complex bouquet. Ripe red and dark fruits—morello cherry, blackberry, crushed raspberry—are complemented by black pepper spice and a subtle liquorice note.
In the mouth
Well-balanced between silky tannins and fully ripe red fruit. The wine shows good structure and a clean, persistent finish.
M. Francois
This is a complete wine. Where many Cheverny reds remain delicate and ethereal, this cuvée offers real substance and interesting aromatic depth. The vieilles vignes selection gives it the backbone to partner confidently with charcuterie or grilled meats. A wine that rewards slightly cool service and benefits from decanting.

DOMAINE SAUGER

Based in Fresnes, Loir-et-Cher, Domaine Sauger covers 30 hectares across the AOP Cheverny and Cour-Cheverny appellations, on the sandy-clay and siliceous soils typical of the Loire Valley. Five generations have tended this land since 1870; Philippe Sauger took over in 1988 with just 7 hectares and has since grown the estate patiently to its current size, working Sauvignon Blanc, Romorantin, Pinot Noir and Gamay under Terra Vitis certification. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the clarity of its whites, the straightforwardness of its reds, and the consistency of a family approach built over the long term. A reliable reference for those wishing to explore Cheverny beyond the Loire's more celebrated names.
