Breeding
16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, with a substantial proportion of new wood (60% to 80%), but a selection of very light toasts
On the eye
Deep ruby-garnet robe, limpid and lustrous. Colour evolves from purple towards garnet with bottle age.
On the nose
Complex and layered. Dark berries—blackcurrant and blackberry—mingle with cherry, whilst noble floral notes of rose and violet emerge. Spice (cinnamon, clove) and the influence of careful élevage (sandalwood, precious wood) add depth. With time, the wine develops gamey undertones and the distinctive mineral character of the terroir.
In the mouth
Majestic and velvety on the attack. The palate is enveloped by silken tannins, refined and sweetened by ripe fruit. The structure is both firm and elegant, maintaining aristocratic freshness despite considerable weight. The finish is exceptionally long, echoing dark fruit, spice and forest floor.
