Breeding
Ageing in oak barrels for 18 months with 30% new oak renewed annually
On the eye
Deep, sustained colour with excellent clarity
On the nose
Cassis and black pepper notes mingle with subtle forest floor undertones. The bouquet develops gradually, revealing layers of spice and dark fruit as it opens in the glass.
In the mouth
Well-structured and substantial, with a firm tannic backbone that suggests years of development ahead. The finish carries a distinctive peppery note that lingers with elegance and restraint.
M. Francois
This wine pairs beautifully with veal kidneys prepared with oyster mushrooms—a classic French pairing that highlights the wine's savoury spice and underlying richness. The wine's structure and peppery finish complement the earthiness of the mushrooms and the delicate texture of the meat with particular finesse.

CLOS RENE

Established across 12 hectares on the western slope of the Pomerol plateau, Clos René is one of the most deeply rooted châteaux in this celebrated Bordeaux appellation. Recorded as early as 1764 on the Belleyme map as 'Reney', it has remained in the same family for over a century, now under SCEA Garde-Lasserre — with Jean-Marie Garde, president of the Pomerol syndicate, at the helm. The blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec grows on ancient gravels and sands above a subsoil of crasse de fer, the plateau's geological hallmark. At Halles Quercamps, we selected this château for its territorial roots, the consistency of its vintages, and the standing of its owners at the heart of the appellation. A reference Pomerol of real character and dependable quality.
