A refined Côtes du Rhône from vines of considerable age

  • This wine distinguishes itself through its elegance and vitality. The palate is supple and generous, yet retains a pleasing freshness that invites the next sip.
  • A natural companion to lamb cutlets grilled over vine cuttings, or roasted guinea fowl. The wine's structure and spice also suit Provençal vegetable dishes with grace.
  • Grenache and Syrah planted on terroir comparable to that of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, yet Le Mazet offers the approachability and precision of a wine made with restraint and care.

Product features : Domaine de Panisse Côtes du Rhône Rouge le Mazet 2023

Breeding
Ageing in concrete vats (principally) to preserve the brightness of the fruit. No new oak to avoid masking the finesse of the Grenache.
On the eye
Violet-red with bright, luminous reflections and a soft, velvety depth.
On the nose
Aromas of dark berries and ripe strawberry, with subtle notes of dried herbs and gentle spice. The bouquet is inviting without excess.
In the mouth
The palate is smooth and generous, with a silky texture. A refreshing acidity lifts the wine and provides excellent balance throughout the finish.
M. Francois
Le Mazet represents what is sometimes called a 'Baby Châteauneuf'. Under Jean-Paul Daumen's stewardship (Vieille Julienne), this wine has gained remarkable precision. It is a Côtes du Rhône of considerable refinement, prioritising mouth-feel and drinkability. The balance of quality, value, and character is notably well-judged for the region.

DOMAINE DE PANISSE

Spread across 13 hectares at Courthézon, in the heart of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, Domaine de Panisse takes its name from a Provençal manor house dating to 1472. Acquired in April 2020 by the Vacheron family — already well regarded at Clos du Caillou — the estate is now farmed under full organic and biodynamic certification, across a mosaic of quartzite galets roulés, sand and clay-limestone soils planted to Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the rigour of its biodynamic conversion, the character of its reds and the coherence of a project carried by a family whose standards we know well. A Châteauneuf-du-Pape to follow closely.
