Syrah, Grenache

A refined Côtes du Rhône from vines of considerable age

  • This wine distinguishes itself through its suppleness and vibrancy. The palate is graceful and fluid, offering genuine drinking pleasure without pretension. A wine that rewards both immediate enjoyment and modest cellaring.
  • The structure and spice profile suit lamb cutlets grilled over vine cuttings, roasted guinea fowl, or aubergine-based dishes with warmth and depth. Its freshness complements Mediterranean cuisine naturally.
  • Grenache and Syrah from terroirs comparable to those of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, yet with the approachability and finesse that define the finest expressions of Côtes du Rhône. Organic viticulture throughout.

Product features : Domaine de Panisse Côtes du Rhône Rouge le Mazet 2023

Breeding
Ageing in concrete vats (principally) to preserve the fruit's brilliance. No new oak to avoid masking the finesse of the Grenache.
On the eye
Deep violet-red with luminous edges and a soft, velvety depth of colour.
On the nose
Aromas of dark berries and ripe strawberry mingle with subtle herbal and spiced notes, revealing the wine's Rhône character with restraint and clarity.
In the mouth
The palate is smooth and generous, with a silken texture and pleasing freshness that carries through to a balanced finish. Tannins are refined rather than assertive.
M. Francois
Le Mazet exemplifies what discerning collectors call a 'Baby Châteauneuf'. Under Jean-Paul Daumen's stewardship (Vieille Julienne), precision and elegance have become hallmarks. This is haute couture Côtes du Rhône—prioritising mouthfeel and drinkability over extraction. The balance of quality, value, and genuine pleasure is difficult to match in the region. Ideal with lamb, game birds, or robust vegetable preparations.

DOMAINE DE PANISSE

Spread across 13 hectares at Courthézon, in the heart of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, Domaine de Panisse takes its name from a Provençal manor house dating to 1472. Acquired in April 2020 by the Vacheron family — already well regarded at Clos du Caillou — the estate is now farmed under full organic and biodynamic certification, across a mosaic of quartzite galets roulés, sand and clay-limestone soils planted to Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the rigour of its biodynamic conversion, the character of its reds and the coherence of a project carried by a family whose standards we know well. A Châteauneuf-du-Pape to follow closely.
