The third wine of Château Calon Ségur

  • A wine of admirable balance, marrying the freshness of youth with the refined structure characteristic of the Calon Ségur terroir. The palate shows restraint and elegance rather than power.
  • Produced from the younger vines of the estate, Le C represents the château's commitment to quality across all its releases. These parcels contribute brightness and approachability without compromising depth.
  • Calon Ségur holds third Grand Cru status in the 1855 Classification of Bordeaux. This third wine carries the hallmarks of its prestigious provenance whilst offering earlier accessibility than the grand vin.

Breeding
Approximately 14 months in three-wine barrels
On the eye
Deep garnet robe with an intense, lustrous appearance
On the nose
Red fruit aromas—cherry and plum—mingle with delicate floral notes and a whisper of graphite. The bouquet unfolds gradually, revealing the wine's understated complexity.
In the mouth
Fine, silky tannins provide structure without astringency. The mid-palate shows good concentration, with red fruit flavours carrying through to a clean, persistent finish. A wine of poise and breeding.
M. Francois
Le C de Calon Ségur will show its best alongside grilled red meat—a côte de boeuf or lamb would be ideal partners. The wine's acidity and tannin structure cut through richness beautifully. Equally, it rewards contemplation on its own, revealing layer upon layer of subtle expression as it opens in the glass.

CHATEAU CALON SEGUR

At the northern tip of the Médoc, Château Calon Ségur covers 55 hectares of gravelly soils over clay subsoil within the Saint-Estèphe appellation, classified 3rd Grand Cru in 1855. Founded in 1147, the château entered a new chapter in 2012 under Suravenir Assurances, whose investment programme brought rigorous parcel-by-parcel viticulture, HVE certification, and tightly controlled yields of just 26 hl/ha in 2022. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the singular character of its northerly terroir, the discipline of its vineyard management, and the consistency of its red wines — a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Its heart-adorned label has become one of the most recognisable emblems in all of Bordeaux.
