A Loire gem worthy of discovery

  • Planted to old vines aged between 40 and 70 years, this Chinon expresses the depth and complexity that only mature vineyard stock can deliver. The extended root systems penetrate deep into the terroir, concentrating flavour and mineral character.
  • Domaine Philippe Alliet practises reasoned viticulture with meticulous hand-harvesting. This approach respects the fruit and the vineyard ecosystem, ensuring only optimal grapes reach the cellar for traditional winemaking.
  • This is a Chinon that rewards immediate attention. The 2022 vintage captures the essence of the appellation with a compelling balance of structure and elegance, offering genuine drinking pleasure without pretension.

Product features : Domaine Philippe Alliet - Chinon Rouge Vieilles Vignes 2022

In the mouth
The palate presents a fine-grained texture with firm, well-integrated tannins. Muscular and structured, yet softened by an underlying suavity that makes the wine approachable now whilst promising further development.
On the nose
The bouquet reveals graphite and pencil-lead minerality alongside ripe cassis and dark plum. Intensely fruited, with a mineral spine that speaks to the Loire's slate and clay soils.
On the eye
Deep, almost black garnet robe with excellent concentration and clarity.
Breeding
13 months in oak barrels
M. Francois
An excellent accompaniment to roasted duck, game in sauce, or a classic bavette à l'échalote. The wine's mineral tension and ripe fruit make it equally suited to charcuterie and aged cheeses. Drink now through 2028.

DOMAINE PHILIPPE ALLIET

Established at Cravant-les-Coteaux in the heart of the Chinon appellation, Domaine Philippe Alliet farms 17 hectares of Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc across clay-limestone, clay-siliceous and gravelly soils on south-facing slopes. Philippe Alliet, third generation of the family, took over in 1978 and forged a quietly influential style through the 1990s; his son Pierre joined him in 2005, strengthening a lineage built on precision rather than fashion. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the rigour of its approach — biodynamic practices followed without the pursuit of certification — and for the clarity with which its wines articulate the distinct facets of the Loire terroir. A reliable address for those who want Chinon as it truly is.
