The second wine of Château Gruaud-Larose

  • A refined Saint-Julien with a clean, assured entry on the palate. The wine demonstrates the hallmark structure and balance of the Gruaud-Larose terroir, with a sophistication that belies its secondary status.
  • This wine pairs beautifully with duck preparations—a ballotine, confit, or roasted breast. It also complements roasted veal and a well-chosen cheese board with considerable grace.
  • A wine of genuine character that will appeal to those who appreciate the classic Saint-Julien style: structured yet approachable, with the pedigree of one of Pauillac's most respected estates.

Breeding
Aged in barrels, 80% new oak, for 18 to 24 months.
On the eye
Deep, vibrant garnet with violet hues. The colour is well-defined and youthful.
On the nose
The bouquet is generous and fruit-forward: blackberry, blackcurrant, blueberry and plum dominate. A genuine basket of dark fruits with fine aromatic complexity.
In the mouth
Fine, well-integrated tannins unfold with pleasing volume and structure. The finish is fresh and elegant—notably refined for a second wine, with a lingering, clean conclusion.
M. Francois
This wine will reward you fully alongside duck preparations, roasted veal, or a selection of mature cheeses. It represents excellent value from a prestigious address and will develop gracefully over the next five to eight years.

CHATEAU GRUAUD-LAROSE

Set on the south-east-facing slopes of Saint-Julien-Beychevelle in the Médoc, Château Gruaud-Larose covers 82 hectares of Garonne gravel classified as a 2nd Grand Cru Classé in 1855. Founded in 1725 and acquired in 1997 by the Merlaut family, this historic château combines centuries of Bordeaux tradition with a certified organic conversion completed in 2022, producing red wines of characteristic structure and depth. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the coherence of its trajectory: a first-rank terroir, rigorous stewardship, and a genuine environmental commitment that lends each new vintage added meaning. A benchmark Saint-Julien — classical in spirit, yet firmly looking forward.
