The refined second wine of a classified Bordeaux estate

  • This is a wine of genuine finesse, offering a clean attack on the palate with well-defined structure. The fruit expression is clear and purposeful, reflecting the careful selection of fruit that defines this second wine.
  • Drawn from the same terroirs as the grand vin, Sarget de Gruaud-Larose demonstrates the hallmark elegance of Saint-Julien. It offers complexity and roundness without the weight of its senior counterpart, making it an approachable expression of classified Bordeaux.
  • This represents a considered entry point into the world of Bordeaux's classified growths. It carries the pedigree and quality standards of Gruaud-Larose whilst remaining measured in its demands on the cellar or purse.

Product features : Sarget de Gruaud-Larose 2017 — Saint-Julien

Breeding
Aged in barrels with 80% new oak for 18 to 24 months.
On the eye
Deep garnet with a vivid, violet-tinged hue. The colour is well-sustained and speaks to good ripeness at harvest.
On the nose
The bouquet is generous and fruit-forward: blackberry, cassis, bilberry and plum predominate, with subtle secondary notes emerging as the wine opens. The aromatic profile is classic Saint-Julien—ripe, balanced and inviting.
In the mouth
Fine-grained tannins unfold with good volume across the mid-palate. The wine carries excellent balance and a fresh, elegant finish that belies its classification as a second wine. Structure and refinement are evident throughout.
M. Francois
This wine pairs admirably with duck preparations—a ballotine or confit—as well as roasted veal and mature cheeses. Its acidity and tannin structure make it a natural companion to game and herb-dressed meats. Drink now through 2032 for optimal enjoyment.

CHATEAU GRUAUD-LAROSE

Set on the south-east-facing slopes of Saint-Julien-Beychevelle in the Médoc, Château Gruaud-Larose covers 82 hectares of Garonne gravel classified as a 2nd Grand Cru Classé in 1855. Founded in 1725 and acquired in 1997 by the Merlaut family, this historic château combines centuries of Bordeaux tradition with a certified organic conversion completed in 2022, producing red wines of characteristic structure and depth. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the coherence of its trajectory: a first-rank terroir, rigorous stewardship, and a genuine environmental commitment that lends each new vintage added meaning. A benchmark Saint-Julien — classical in spirit, yet firmly looking forward.
