The essence of Pomerol

  • This wine displays the characteristic charm of the appellation, with generous fruit and an aromatic profile that complements a broad range of dishes. The vines average forty years of age, contributing depth and complexity to the final expression.
  • Château Le Gay shows particular affinity with beef preparations. A fillet of beef will find in this wine a natural partner, though it performs equally well alongside game terrines, mushroom risotto, or a stuffed capon.
  • The vineyard's maturity—averaging forty years—ensures the concentration and textural richness characteristic of serious Pomerol. This age profile contributes notably to the wine's structure and ageing potential.

Breeding
The same French oak barrels used for the micro-vinification host the wine for 18 months for malolactic fermentation and élevage.
On the eye
Deep purple robe with ruby highlights, suggesting ripe fruit and good concentration.
On the nose
Initially reserved, the bouquet unfolds gradually to reveal secondary notes of violet and damp forest floor, with subtle mineral undertones emerging as the wine opens in the glass.
In the mouth
Rich attack with moderate weight and fine-grained tannins. The palate shows good balance between fruit and structure, with a persistent finish that speaks to the quality of the terroir.
M. Francois
A food-friendly Pomerol of considerable merit. Pairs beautifully with game terrines, mushroom risotto, and roasted poultry. Most compelling alongside beef preparations—a fillet will bring out the wine's subtle complexity and mineral character. Drink now through 2032.

CHÂTEAU LE GAY

Sitting at the heart of the Pomerol plateau in Gironde, Château le Gay covers 10 hectares of clay-gravel soils planted predominantly to Merlot, with yields held to around 25 hl/ha. Rooted in a manor house dating to the 18th century, the château passed through several distinguished hands before Catherine Péré-Vergé — known as 'La Dame de Pomerol' — acquired it in 2002 for a reported $25 million, bringing renewed ambition to one of Bordeaux's most sought-after appellations. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the precision of its terroir, the consistency of its vintages, and the character of a Pomerol shaped by clay and gravel without compromise. A red Bordeaux that is both generous and firmly structured — true to what this appellation does best.
