A distinctive Cornas of considerable character

  • This single-parcel cuvée displays remarkable potential for cellaring, developing in complexity over the coming decade. The wine possesses the structure and depth characteristic of the finest Cornas expressions, rewarding patience with layered aromatics and refined tannin integration.
  • Sourced from a specific vineyard parcel, this cuvée reflects the precise terroir of the site. The parcellaire approach allows Domaine Courbis to capture the distinctive mineral and spiced character that defines this particular corner of the Northern Rhône appellation.
  • The wine's textured palate and savoury spice profile make it an excellent companion to game dishes and rich autumn fare. Consider it alongside roasted game birds with chestnut accompaniments, or with slow-braised meat preparations where its tannin structure will provide welcome balance.

In the mouth
The palate displays pleasing roundness and mid-palate weight, with well-integrated tannins providing structure without aggression. Spiced cherry and plum flavours develop through the finish, with a savoury mineral persistence that speaks to the site's geology.
On the nose
Spiced dark fruit aromas with subtle smoky undertones. The bouquet unfolds to reveal white pepper, dried herbs, and a mineral quality typical of Northern Rhône Syrah. Restrained but layered, inviting closer inspection.
On the eye
Violet-tinged garnet, with good depth and clarity
Breeding
18 months in new oak (50%) and one-year-old oak (50%)
M. Francois
This wine demonstrates the versatility of Cornas when approached with restraint and respect for terroir. Pair it with game preparations such as wild boar braised in cognac, where the wine's spiced character and textured tannins complement the richness of the dish. The wine will benefit from decanting and shows genuine complexity at the table.
