Chenin

A discreet expression of Chinon's white wine potential

  • Whilst Chinon has earned its reputation through exceptional red wines, the appellation's white offerings deserve equal recognition. This Chenin Blanc demonstrates the versatility and finesse that the region's terroir can deliver.
  • Sourced from a modest parcel of less than one hectare situated on a south-facing slope, the vineyard's composition of clay, silica and limestone provides the mineral foundation characteristic of fine Loire whites.
  • The domaine practises reasoned viticulture with meticulous hand-harvesting, ensuring optimal phenolic maturity and preserving the delicate aromatics essential to white wine production.

Product features : Domaine Philippe Alliet - Chinon 2022

In the mouth
A Chenin Blanc of considerable freshness, with sufficient phenolic structure to provide a fine tannic grip on the finish. The palate displays good weight and definition, balancing acidity with textural depth.
On the nose
The opening reveals apricot and fresh quince, complemented by white flowers. The secondary bouquet develops mineral notes with refined oak influence, adding complexity without dominance.
On the eye
Brilliant pale gold with subtle green reflections
Breeding
Aged 12 months in oak (33% new, 33% one-year-old, 33% two-year-old barrels)
M. Francois
This wine pairs beautifully with poached cod in tarragon beurre blanc. The wine's mineral character and restrained oak complement the delicate fish and herb-infused sauce, whilst its phenolic structure provides sufficient grip to stand alongside the richness of the butter.

DOMAINE PHILIPPE ALLIET

Established at Cravant-les-Coteaux in the heart of the Chinon appellation, Domaine Philippe Alliet farms 17 hectares of Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc across clay-limestone, clay-siliceous and gravelly soils on south-facing slopes. Philippe Alliet, third generation of the family, took over in 1978 and forged a quietly influential style through the 1990s; his son Pierre joined him in 2005, strengthening a lineage built on precision rather than fashion. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the rigour of its approach — biodynamic practices followed without the pursuit of certification — and for the clarity with which its wines articulate the distinct facets of the Loire terroir. A reliable address for those who want Chinon as it truly is.
