The essence of Pomerol

  • This wine displays attractive fruit character and aromatic depth, making it a versatile accompaniment to a broad range of dishes. The forty-year-old vines contribute richness and complexity to the blend.
  • Particularly well-suited to beef dishes, it will enhance a fillet of beef with its moderate weight and refined tannin structure. The wine's balance makes it equally rewarding with game and earthy preparations.
  • The vineyard's mature vines, averaging forty years of age, impart concentration and textural depth. This maturity is evident in the wine's layered aromatics and sustained finish.

Product features : Château le Gay 2022 — Pomerol

Breeding
The same French oak barrels used for the micro-vinification host the wine for 18 months for malolactic fermentation and élevage.
On the eye
Purple-tinged robe with ruby highlights, suggesting both youth and structure.
On the nose
Initially reserved, the bouquet gradually unfolds to reveal secondary notes of violet and damp forest floor. The aromatic development continues in the glass, revealing the wine's complexity.
In the mouth
Rich attack with moderate weight and well-integrated tannins. The palate shows good definition and a persistent finish that reflects the terroir of the appellation.
M. Francois
Château le Gay pairs admirably with pheasant terrine, porcini risotto, and stuffed capon. A fillet of beef is particularly well-matched, where the wine's structure and fruit complement the richness of the meat. The 2022 vintage demonstrates the estate's consistent quality and the distinctive character of Right Bank Bordeaux.

CHÂTEAU LE GAY

Sitting at the heart of the Pomerol plateau in Gironde, Château le Gay covers 10 hectares of clay-gravel soils planted predominantly to Merlot, with yields held to around 25 hl/ha. Rooted in a manor house dating to the 18th century, the château passed through several distinguished hands before Catherine Péré-Vergé — known as 'La Dame de Pomerol' — acquired it in 2002 for a reported $25 million, bringing renewed ambition to one of Bordeaux's most sought-after appellations. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the precision of its terroir, the consistency of its vintages, and the character of a Pomerol shaped by clay and gravel without compromise. A red Bordeaux that is both generous and firmly structured — true to what this appellation does best.
