The second wine of Château Gruaud-Larose

  • A refined Saint-Julien with a composed entry on the palate, revealing the careful winemaking of one of Bordeaux's most respected estates. The structure here is assured without heaviness.
  • This wine shows particular affinity with duck preparations—whether ballotine or confit—and performs admirably alongside roasted veal or a considered cheese course.
  • A wine of genuine character that rewards the serious drinker. The second wine designation belies its pedigree; here is a Saint-Julien that speaks with quiet authority to those who know the appellation.

Breeding
Aged in barrels, 80% new oak, for 18 to 24 months.
On the eye
Deep, vibrant garnet with violet notes. The colour speaks of ripe fruit and careful extraction.
On the nose
A generous bouquet unfolds with blackberry, cassis and blueberry, layered with darker plum notes. The aromatics are well-defined and speak clearly of the vintage and terroir.
In the mouth
Fine-grained tannins develop with pleasing volume and structure. The palate carries good length, finishing with freshness and elegance—a notably refined conclusion for a second wine of this calibre.
M. Francois
Serve this alongside a ballotine of duck, roasted veal, or a selection of mature cheeses. The wine's balance and restraint make it an excellent companion to the table, neither demanding nor retiring. A wine for those who value substance over ostentation.

CHATEAU GRUAUD-LAROSE

Set on the south-east-facing slopes of Saint-Julien-Beychevelle in the Médoc, Château Gruaud-Larose covers 82 hectares of Garonne gravel classified as a 2nd Grand Cru Classé in 1855. Founded in 1725 and acquired in 1997 by the Merlaut family, this historic château combines centuries of Bordeaux tradition with a certified organic conversion completed in 2022, producing red wines of characteristic structure and depth. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the coherence of its trajectory: a first-rank terroir, rigorous stewardship, and a genuine environmental commitment that lends each new vintage added meaning. A benchmark Saint-Julien — classical in spirit, yet firmly looking forward.
