Grenache

Châteauneuf-du-Pape: France's first appellation, established 1936

  • A pure Grenache expression of uncommon refinement. This wine eschews the heavy-handed power sometimes associated with the appellation, instead revealing the varietal's natural delicacy and finesse through restrained, thoughtful winemaking.
  • An atypical cuvée of 100% Grenache with pronounced character. Les Clavelles demonstrates how terroir and careful viticulture can yield complexity and personality without resorting to blending or extraction.
  • Certified organic viticulture honours both the land and the wine. This commitment to sustainable practice is evident in the wine's purity of expression and the integrity of its fruit.

Product features : Chateau la Nerthe Châteauneuf-du-Pape les Clavelles 2017 — Châteauneuf-du-Pape — Organic

In the mouth
Rich and rounded palate of preserved red fruits, particularly cherry, with Mediterranean herbs (bay, thyme), liquorice and white pepper. The finish balances elegance with power, depth with energy, and sweetness with structure.
On the nose
Powerful and layered bouquet of ripe red fruits—blueberry predominates—with distinctive garrigue character and floral notes reminiscent of blackcurrant buds.
On the eye
Deep red with violet reflections
Breeding
Ageing partly in large wooden vats and partly in barrels for 12 months (French oak)
M. Francois
This wine is well suited to game dishes of substance: a traditional civet of hare or a slow-braised wild boar daube would be ideal companions. The wine's herbaceous undertones and spiced finish complement the savoury depth of such fare.
