Six generations of winemaking heritage in Ampuis

  • The domaine has been transitioning towards organic viticulture since 2020, reflecting a commitment to sustainable practice whilst maintaining the intensity and character that define this northern Rhône appellation.
  • A wine of mineral precision and power, combining the structure characteristic of Côte-Rôtie with an elegant restraint. The expression reflects the steep, granitic terroir of La Viallière.
  • This vintage demonstrates considerable cellaring potential. The balance of ripe fruit, tannin structure and acidity suggests the wine will develop further complexity over the coming decade.

Product features : Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin Cote-Rotie la Vialliere 2020 — Côte-Rôtie

In the mouth
Generous and precise. Silky tannins support a core of dark red fruit, with mineral tension and a lingering finish that reflects the granite-based soils of the vineyard.
On the nose
Red fruits—cherry and raspberry—with white pepper spice, slate minerality, and subtle floral notes that emerge with aeration.
On the eye
Deep garnet, with a dark ruby core and good intensity of colour.
Breeding
22 months: 70% new demi-muids, 30% demi-muids of one or two vintages
M. Francois
This Côte-Rôtie pairs beautifully with game birds such as quail or partridge, where its mineral backbone and moderate alcohol complement the delicate, slightly gamey character of the meat. Also well-suited to duck preparations and aged cheeses.
