The essence of Pomerol

  • This wine displays a refined fruitiness and aromatic character that complements a broad range of dishes. The moderate body and elegant structure make it particularly versatile at table.
  • Château le Gay achieves particular harmony with beef fillet, where its fruit-forward profile and subtle earthiness enhance the richness of the meat without overwhelming it.
  • The vineyard's vines average forty years in age, contributing depth and concentration to the wine whilst maintaining the freshness characteristic of the appellation.

Product features : Château le Gay 2021 — Pomerol

In the mouth
Rich attack with moderate body. The palate shows good structure and balance, with fine-grained tannins that suggest the wine will develop gracefully over the medium term.
On the nose
Initially reserved, the bouquet unfolds gradually to reveal secondary notes of violet and damp woodland floor. Air brings out the wine's fuller aromatic expression.
On the eye
Purple robe with ruby undertones, suggesting both youth and developing maturity
Breeding
The same French oak barrels used for the micro-vinification host the wine for 18 months for malolactic fermentation and élevage.
M. Francois
A wine of considerable versatility. Château le Gay pairs well with game terrines, mushroom risotto, stuffed capon, and beef fillet. The balance between fruit and earth makes it suitable for both immediate enjoyment and modest cellaring.

CHÂTEAU LE GAY

Sitting at the heart of the Pomerol plateau in Gironde, Château le Gay covers 10 hectares of clay-gravel soils planted predominantly to Merlot, with yields held to around 25 hl/ha. Rooted in a manor house dating to the 18th century, the château passed through several distinguished hands before Catherine Péré-Vergé — known as 'La Dame de Pomerol' — acquired it in 2002 for a reported $25 million, bringing renewed ambition to one of Bordeaux's most sought-after appellations. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the precision of its terroir, the consistency of its vintages, and the character of a Pomerol shaped by clay and gravel without compromise. A red Bordeaux that is both generous and firmly structured — true to what this appellation does best.
