The elegant second wine of a classified Bordeaux estate

  • This wine opens with a fine attack on the palate, revealing the pedigree of its terroir. The structure is refined yet assured, demonstrating the care taken in its selection and élevage.
  • Drawn from the same vineyard parcels as the grand vin, Sarget de Gruaud-Larose offers the complexity and character of a classified growth, yet with a rounder, more approachable profile that rewards early drinking.
  • An excellent introduction to the world of Saint-Julien's classified estates. This second wine delivers genuine depth and breeding without the extended cellaring demands of its senior counterpart.

Breeding
Aged in barrels, 80% new oak, for 18 to 24 months.
On the eye
Deep garnet with vibrant violet hues; a well-coloured, lively appearance
On the nose
Generous aromatic expression: blackberry, blackcurrant, bilberry and plum. The bouquet is fruit-forward and inviting, with good complexity and no herbaceous notes.
In the mouth
Fine-grained tannins unfold with excellent volume and grip. The finish is fresh and notably elegant for a second wine—a hallmark of careful winemaking and proper selection.
M. Francois
Pair this wine with roasted duck, rack of veal, or a mature cheese board. It will also reward a few years in bottle, developing further complexity. Serve at 16–18°C to appreciate its finesse fully.

CHATEAU GRUAUD-LAROSE

Set on the south-east-facing slopes of Saint-Julien-Beychevelle in the Médoc, Château Gruaud-Larose covers 82 hectares of Garonne gravel classified as a 2nd Grand Cru Classé in 1855. Founded in 1725 and acquired in 1997 by the Merlaut family, this historic château combines centuries of Bordeaux tradition with a certified organic conversion completed in 2022, producing red wines of characteristic structure and depth. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the coherence of its trajectory: a first-rank terroir, rigorous stewardship, and a genuine environmental commitment that lends each new vintage added meaning. A benchmark Saint-Julien — classical in spirit, yet firmly looking forward.
