A rich, concentrated and generous Banyuls from the steep terraces

  • A wine of genuine ageing potential. The 2017 vintage from Coume Del Mas demonstrates the structure and depth that characterises the finest examples of Banyuls Rouge, developing complexity over years in the cellar.
  • Sourced from old grenache vines clinging to the vertiginous slopes of the Banyuls appellation. These ancient plants, struggling against the rocky terrain and Mediterranean climate, produce grapes of exceptional concentration and character.
  • This wine offers genuine pleasure and substance. The balance between richness and freshness, combined with the authenticity of its terroir expression, represents honest value for the discerning drinker.

Product features : Coume Del Mas - Banyuls Rouge Quintessence 2017

In the mouth
Extremely velvety in texture, with good amplitude and density. The wine is well-structured, revealing layers of dark fruit and spice, finishing with a generous, refreshing persistence that belies its 16.5% alcohol
On the nose
Smoky undertones mingle with aromatic herbs, whilst dark fruits—cassis and prune—emerge with hints of dried stone fruit and a whisper of garrigue
On the eye
Deep garnet robe with subtle brick-red highlights at the rim
Breeding
12 to 14 months in 225-litre barrels, 50% new oak
M. Francois
This Banyuls Rouge pairs beautifully with dark chocolate-based desserts and preparations featuring dried fruits—particularly figs, dates and prunes. The wine's natural sweetness and structure also complement almond-based confections and mature hard cheeses. A contemplative glass after dinner is equally rewarding.
