Breeding
A minimum of 48 months on lees (against the legal minimum of 15 months), allowing the bubble to refine and the aromas to develop in complexity
On the eye
Pale gold with subtle green highlights, animated by fine, creamy bubbles.
On the nose
White flowers and citrus notes predominate, underpinned by a distinctive mineral character that lends elegance and definition to the bouquet.
In the mouth
The attack is clean and vibrant. White floral and citrus fragrances develop into notes of preserved peach, a hallmark of fine Chardonnay. The finish is dry, crisp, and persistent.
M. Francois
De Venoge's Princes Blanc de Blancs represents a measured, classical approach to Champagne from the Côte des Blancs. The wine's mineral backbone and restrained fruit expression reflect serious winemaking. Recommended for those who value precision and terroir expression over richness.

CHAMPAGNE DE VENOGE

Founded in 1837 by Henri-Marc de Venoge at Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Champagne de Venoge stands among the historic Houses of the avenue de Champagne in Épernay. Acquired by the Lanson-BCC group in 1998, it continues a rigorous assemblage approach rooted in the chalk terroirs of the Marne.

A House with deep roots in the Champagne region

It was a Swiss merchant, Henri-Marc de Venoge, who laid the foundations of this House in 1837, choosing Mareuil-sur-Aÿ — a village of considerable repute on the southern flank of the Montagne de Reims — as his starting point. From those origins, the House gradually established itself along the celebrated avenue de Champagne in Épernay, the spiritual and commercial heart of the appellation, where it has been based at number 33 ever since.

In 1998, Champagne de Venoge became part of the BCC group, which was subsequently renamed Lanson-BCC in 2010 following the acquisition of Champagne Lanson. This integration into a larger group has provided the House with the resources to maintain the quality and consistency of its range, while preserving the editorial identity it has cultivated over nearly two centuries. The House works across the Champagne appellation, drawing on chalk-rich soils — craie — that are the geological signature of the Marne and a key contributor to the mineral tension and fine persistent bubbles that characterise the region's finest wines.

Terroir and grape varieties

Champagne de Venoge cultivates 12 hectares of its own vines, though as a négociant House it sources fruit and base wines from across the appellation to compose its blends. The three classic Champagne varieties are all represented: Pinot Noir brings structure, body and red-fruit depth; Pinot Meunier contributes roundness and approachability in youth; and Chardonnay lends freshness, precision and the capacity for long ageing. The chalk subsoils of the Marne valley provide excellent drainage and a natural reservoir of moisture, promoting steady, even ripening and imparting the characteristic mineral backbone that runs through the House's cuvées.

Winemaking philosophy

The House's approach centres on the art of assemblage — the blending of different varieties, crus and vintages that lies at the heart of Champagne winemaking. This discipline, refined over generations, allows the cellar team to achieve a consistent house style year on year, whilst also producing vintage and prestige cuvées that reflect the character of exceptional harvests. The style of Champagne de Venoge is one of balance: structured enough to reward patience in the cellar, yet approachable on release.

The range at Halles Quercamps

  • Blanc (non-vintage and vintage) — assemblage-driven Champagnes built on chalk terroir, combining Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay in varying proportions depending on the cuvée.
  • Rosé — expressive and structured, drawing on the Pinot varieties for colour, fruit and depth.
  • Prestige and special cuvées — selected releases that showcase the House's commitment to quality and its long history within the Champagne appellation.

Why we have selected Champagne de Venoge

At Halles Quercamps, we list Champagne de Venoge for three reasons that matter to us as merchants. First, the consistency of the cuvées: bottle after bottle, the house style holds — a reassurance we value when recommending wines for gifts or special occasions. Second, the depth of history: a founding date of 1837 is not a marketing device here — it reflects nearly two centuries of accumulated knowledge of the Champagne appellation, its terroirs and its rhythms. Third, the clarity of positioning: this is a House that knows what it is, and that coherence translates into wines with genuine identity.

We recommend these Champagnes to confirmed enthusiasts who appreciate a structured, mineral style, and to those seeking a well-grounded House for the cellar or for celebratory occasions. At table, consider pairing with grilled scallops, aged Comté, or a fine terrine de volaille.
