A Loire discovery of genuine character and depth

  • Planted to vines aged between 40 and 70 years, this Chinon benefits from the concentration and complexity that only mature rootstock can provide. The vineyard's established terroir expresses itself with particular clarity in this vintage.
  • Domaine Philippe Alliet practises reasoned viticulture with meticulous hand-harvesting. This approach respects the fruit and the land, yielding wines of authentic expression rather than industrial uniformity.
  • A Chinon of substance and refinement that merits immediate discovery. This wine demonstrates why the Loire Valley remains one of France's most compelling regions for serious wine drinkers seeking value and character.

Product features : Domaine Philippe Alliet - Chinon Rouge Vieilles Vignes 2019

In the mouth
A wine of considerable structure. Firm, well-integrated tannins provide backbone, whilst the palate displays muscular definition balanced by subtle suavity. The finish is clean and persistent.
On the nose
Graphite and pencil lead mingle with ripe cassis and dark cherry. The bouquet is intensely fruited, with mineral undertones that speak to the terroir's slate-based soils.
On the eye
Deep, almost black-garnet robe with considerable depth and intensity.
Breeding
13 months in oak barrels
M. Francois
This Chinon pairs admirably with roasted duck, game in sauce, or a classic bavette à l'échalote. Its structure and acidity make it equally suited to charcuterie and aged cheeses. Drink now through 2028.

Nicolas françois, propriétaire passionné des halles de quercamps

DOMAINE PHILIPPE ALLIET

Established at Cravant-les-Coteaux in the heart of the Chinon appellation, Domaine Philippe Alliet farms 17 hectares of Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc across clay-limestone, clay-siliceous and gravelly soils on south-facing slopes. Philippe Alliet, third generation of the family, took over in 1978 and forged a quietly influential style through the 1990s; his son Pierre joined him in 2005, strengthening a lineage built on precision rather than fashion. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the rigour of its approach — biodynamic practices followed without the pursuit of certification — and for the clarity with which its wines articulate the distinct facets of the Loire terroir. A reliable address for those who want Chinon as it truly is.
