Three generations of vineyard stewardship

  • Certified organic viticulture since 2020. The vineyard operates in harmony with natural cycles, reflecting a commitment to sustainable practice that enhances the expression of Fronsac's distinctive terroir.
  • This wine embodies the dialogue between vine and soil. Each vintage captures the character of the Fronsac plateau, where clay and iron-rich earth impart mineral complexity and structure.
  • Patience rewards the cellar keeper. This 2020 possesses the structure and freshness to develop gracefully over the next five to eight years, revealing greater complexity with time.

In the mouth
The attack is gentle, then the wine gains breadth and presence. Silky tannins provide structure without aggression. A tonic acidity carries the wine to a satisfying, mineral-edged finish.
On the nose
Aromas of dark plum and blackcurrant leaf, with subtle mineral undertones and a whisper of liquorice. The bouquet unfolds with clarity and restraint.
On the eye
Deep garnet with a luminous core; colour of substance and maturity.
Breeding
Aged in barrels for 12 to 14 months with 30 to 40% new oak
M. Francois
Chateau Carlmagnus demonstrates the calibre of serious Fronsac production. This wine reflects both the house's three-generation heritage and the terroir's capacity for depth. The organic certification underscores a philosophy of respect for the vineyard. A considered addition to any cellar of classical Bordeaux.

CHATEAU CARLMAGNUS

Set on the limestone plateaux above the town of Fronsac in the Gironde, Château Carlmagnus farms 38 hectares of Merlot on naturally drained argilo-calcaire soils, certified organic since 2020. Founded in 1953 by Ernest Roux under the name Carolus, the château passed to Arnaud Roux-Oulié in 1998 — third generation, who renamed it Carlmagnus at the age of twenty and committed to organic viticulture from 2020 onwards. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the rigour of its farming, the consistency of its organic approach, and the honest, terroir-driven character its wines draw from one of Fronsac's most distinctive plateau sites. A Bordeaux address we recommend with confidence.
