The second wine of a Second Growth, with genuine elegance

  • This wine opens with a fine, assured attack on the palate. The structure is well-defined, with good depth and a persistent finish that speaks to the quality of the underlying terroir.
  • Drawn from the same vineyard parcels as the grand vin, Sarget de Gruaud-Larose offers the complexity and refinement of a classified growth, yet with a more approachable character and earlier drinking window.
  • An excellent entry point into the world of Saint-Julien's classified estates. This wine demonstrates that a second label need not compromise on quality or character.

Product features : Sarget de Gruaud-Larose 2020 — Saint-Julien

Breeding
Aged in barrels, 80% new oak, for 18 to 24 months.
On the eye
Deep garnet with vivid, violet-tinged edges. Excellent colour saturation and clarity.
On the nose
Generous bouquet of dark berries—blackcurrant, bilberry and damson plum—with subtle undertones of graphite and cedar. The aromatics are well-defined and persistent.
In the mouth
Fine-grained tannins unfold with good volume and structure. The mid-palate shows real substance, whilst the finish remains fresh and elegant—notably refined for a second wine of this standing.
M. Francois
Serve with duck ballotine, roasted veal loin, or a well-chosen cheese course. The wine's structure and acidity make it a versatile table companion. It will develop further over the next eight to ten years, though it is approachable now for those who prefer wines with some early accessibility.

CHATEAU GRUAUD-LAROSE

Set on the south-east-facing slopes of Saint-Julien-Beychevelle in the Médoc, Château Gruaud-Larose covers 82 hectares of Garonne gravel classified as a 2nd Grand Cru Classé in 1855. Founded in 1725 and acquired in 1997 by the Merlaut family, this historic château combines centuries of Bordeaux tradition with a certified organic conversion completed in 2022, producing red wines of characteristic structure and depth. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the coherence of its trajectory: a first-rank terroir, rigorous stewardship, and a genuine environmental commitment that lends each new vintage added meaning. A benchmark Saint-Julien — classical in spirit, yet firmly looking forward.
