The distinguished second wine of Château Margaux

  • Pavillon Rouge ranks amongst the finest second wines of the Médoc. Crafted with the same rigour as its grand vin, it offers genuine complexity and breeding at a more measured scale.
  • This vintage demonstrates admirable ageing potential. The wine will develop further nuance over the next decade, rewarding patient cellaring with deepening aromatic complexity.
  • The hallmark Margaux elegance shines through: a wine of poise and freshness, balancing ripe fruit with refined structure. Complexity and restraint define its character, avoiding heaviness.

In the mouth
The palate is lively and well-defined, with subtle cedar oak integration. The wine possesses a supple, textured mid-palate and a clean, persistent finish that speaks to fine balance.
On the nose
Expressive bouquet of dark cherry and floral notes, with subtle herbal undertones reminiscent of elderflower. The aromatics are refined and layered rather than immediately showy.
On the eye
Bright ruby with promising depth and clarity
Breeding
In oak barrels for 18 to 20 months
M. Francois
Pavillon Rouge 2020 pairs beautifully with refined preparations: a truffle omelette would be an inspired match, as would beef fillet with duck foie gras. The wine's freshness and structure complement rich, delicate dishes without overwhelming them.

CHATEAU MARGAUX

Château Margaux extends across 262 hectares at Margaux-Cantenac in the Gironde, at the heart of the Bordeaux appellation, on gravelly croupes widely regarded as among the finest on the Left Bank. Restructured from 1572 by the de Lestonnac family and classified a 1er Grand Cru in 1855, the château was decisively revived from 1977 under André Mentzelopoulos; his family continues to lead the estate today, with Alexis Mentzelopoulos at the helm since 2023. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the coherence of its vineyard, the precision of its Cabernet Sauvignon-led assemblages, and the singular character of its dry white, Pavillon Blanc, produced entirely from Sauvignon Blanc. A Bordeaux landmark we are proud to offer.
