Ten generations of Barton family custodianship since 1821

  • Classified as a Third Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux hierarchy, Langoa-Barton represents an unbroken lineage of proprietorship spanning two centuries. The Barton family's stewardship has remained constant through ten generations, ensuring continuity of vision and winemaking philosophy.
  • This Saint-Julien exemplifies restraint and harmony rather than ostentatious power. The wine displays a supple character with rounded contours, allowing its structural elegance to emerge gradually. It embodies the classical Bordeaux ideal: balance between Pauillac's framework and Margaux's refinement.
  • Patience rewards the cellar keeper. This 2018 possesses the structure and tannin finesse to develop considerably over the coming years. Premature opening would forfeit the wine's potential for graceful evolution and deepening complexity.

M. Francois
Langoa-Barton consistently captivates devotees of classical Bordeaux. It eschews exuberant power in favour of precision and harmony—the quintessential Saint-Julien. This is a wine of exemplary consistency and proven cellar longevity. A refuge value for serious collectors. Consider decanting alongside coq au vin or game preparations that honour its understated sophistication.

CHATEAU LANGOA BARTON

Set on the gravel slopes of Saint-Julien-Beychevelle overlooking the Gironde, Château Langoa Barton is one of the very few 3rd Grands Crus Classés of 1855 still held by the family that owned it at the time of classification. Acquired in 1821 by Hugh Barton, the château works 20 hectares of shallow graves to produce red wines from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the consistency of its Saint-Julien style — precise, full-bodied and quietly elegant — and for the remarkable continuity of a family now in its tenth generation with Lilian Barton Sartorius. A benchmark of the appellation, and one we are proud to list.
