Eight generations of family winemaking in Bordeaux

  • Chateau Lanessan stands amongst Bordeaux's most established family properties, with eight generations of accumulated knowledge in the vineyard and cellar. This continuity of stewardship has shaped a distinctive house style characterised by restraint and balance.
  • The 2017 vintage demonstrates the château's commitment to harmony and elegance. The wine balances richness with refinement, offering a textured palate without excess, and reveals the careful élevage that defines this traditional Médoc approach.
  • This vintage possesses genuine ageing potential. The structured tannins and persistent finish suggest the wine will develop further complexity over the coming decade, rewarding those with patience and a suitable cellar.

Breeding
Approximately 12 months in French oak barrels
On the eye
Deep garnet with violet reflections
On the nose
A complex, elegant bouquet revealing layers of dark fruit, subtle oak influence, and mineral undertones characteristic of the Haut-Médoc terroir.
In the mouth
Well-structured on the palate with fleshy tannins and a persistent finish. The wine displays good balance between fruit, tannin, and acidity, with a lingering aftertaste that speaks to careful winemaking.
M. Francois
This wine pairs thoughtfully with rich meat dishes and substantial fare. Consider it alongside beef preparations, game, or well-seasoned meat-based curries where its structure and tannin profile will complement rather than overwhelm. Decant thirty minutes before service to allow the wine to open.

CHATEAU LANESSAN

Established at Cussac-Fort-Médoc on 45 hectares of deep Garonne gravel, Château Lanessan produces exclusively red wines under the Haut-Médoc appellation. Founded in 1793 by Jean Delbos and guided through eight generations by the Bouteiller family, the château passed in 2022 to Treasury Wine Estates, which has since broadened its ambitions considerably. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blends, with Merlot lending roundness and Petit Verdot adding depth — a thoroughly classical Médoc profile. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the consistency of its vintages, the clarity of its gravel terroir, and its HVE certification, all of which underpin a reliable quality-to-price ratio within the appellation. A benchmark Haut-Médoc for lovers of classical Bordeaux.
