The second wine of Château Margaux

  • Pavillon Rouge represents one of the finest second wines produced in the Médoc. Crafted from parcels not selected for the grand vin, it embodies the rigorous standards and terroir expression that define the Margaux appellation.
  • This 2018 vintage possesses considerable cellaring potential, developing greater complexity and refinement over the coming decade. The structure and balance suggest a wine that will reward patient collectors.
  • A wine of distinctive character, balancing elegance with genuine complexity. The freshness and purity of fruit are hallmarks of the vintage, whilst the fine tannin structure provides definition without heaviness.

In the mouth
The palate is lively and well-defined, with a supple, generous mid-palate. Cedar and subtle oak influence provide structure, whilst the fine-grained tannins and seamless finish demonstrate the wine's classical breeding and balance.
On the nose
Expressive bouquet of red cherry and floral notes, with subtle herbaceous undertones reminiscent of elderflower. The aromatic profile develops with air, revealing additional layers of refinement.
On the eye
Brilliant ruby with promising depth and clarity
Breeding
Aged in barrels for 18 to 20 months
M. Francois
Pavillon Rouge 2018 pairs beautifully with refined cuisine. Consider it alongside truffle-enriched dishes or beef preparations featuring foie gras. The wine's elegance and freshness make it equally rewarding as a standalone expression of Margaux's terroir, best enjoyed from 2024 onwards.

CHATEAU MARGAUX

Château Margaux extends across 262 hectares at Margaux-Cantenac in the Gironde, at the heart of the Bordeaux appellation, on gravelly croupes widely regarded as among the finest on the Left Bank. Restructured from 1572 by the de Lestonnac family and classified a 1er Grand Cru in 1855, the château was decisively revived from 1977 under André Mentzelopoulos; his family continues to lead the estate today, with Alexis Mentzelopoulos at the helm since 2023. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the coherence of its vineyard, the precision of its Cabernet Sauvignon-led assemblages, and the singular character of its dry white, Pavillon Blanc, produced entirely from Sauvignon Blanc. A Bordeaux landmark we are proud to offer.
