A compelling expression of Beaujolais Gamay from a distinguished terroir

  • This wine exemplifies the depth and character that Morgon's granite soils impart to Gamay. The parcel selection from Cote du Py yields a wine of considerable structure and flavour intensity, rewarding both immediate enjoyment and modest cellaring.
  • Sourced from a carefully chosen parcel situated below the Cote du Py slope in Javernieres, this wine captures the distinctive mineral and fruit-forward qualities of the appellation. The terroir expresses itself through the wine's richness and textural complexity.
  • Purchased directly from the domaine, this wine represents excellent value through Les Halles de Quercamps' merchant relationships and direct sourcing practices.

Product features : Domaine Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py Javernieres 2018

Breeding
Twelve months' élevage in used oak barrels (no new wood to avoid masking the terroir).
On the eye
Deep ruby with garnet hues. Dense, concentrated colour suggesting ripe fruit and structure.
On the nose
Ripe dark cherry and blackberry preserve dominate, with secondary notes of prune and subtle spice. The bouquet speaks to the ripeness of the vintage and the wine's inherent richness.
In the mouth
Broad and voluptuous on the palate, with velvety tannins and evident ripeness. The fruit is generous without excess, supported by good acidity and a satisfying finish that lingers with dark fruit and mineral notes.
M. Francois
This Morgon pairs excellently with charcuterie, particularly the traditional cured meats of the Lyonnais region. It complements pâtés, saucisson sec, and rosette admirably. Also well-suited to game terrines, roasted poultry, and aged cheeses. Serve slightly cool at 14–15°C to best appreciate its complexity.

DOMAINE JEAN-MARC BURGAUD

Based in Villié-Morgon, Domaine Jean-Marc Burgaud farms 19 hectares across the celebrated slopes of the Côte du Py, at the heart of the Morgon appellation. Founded in 1989, the estate gained its true character in 1992 when Jean-Marc — trained in Burgundy and steeped in a vigneron family — took over his father-in-law's vines on these iron- and manganese-rich schists. That Burgundian formation shows: he reads his parcels with the rigour of a climat, coaxing both power and finesse from Gamay Noir on some of Beaujolais's most distinctive terroir. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the precision of its vineyard work, the typicity of its Morgon, and a consistency of style that places it firmly among the serious addresses of the appellation. A benchmark for the cellar.
