A benchmark Rhône wine of substance and elegance

  • A wine of considerable richness and harmony, with the structure to reward cellaring yet approachable enough to enjoy in its youth. The balance between power and refinement is the hallmark of Pierre Gaillard's winemaking.
  • Versatile at table: its concentration and peppery character suit game, red meat, and rich braises particularly well. Also compelling with mature cheeses and charcuterie.
  • Drink with pleasure now, or lay down for five to eight years. The wine will develop further complexity and soften gracefully, revealing deeper mineral and spice dimensions.

Product features : Pierre Gaillard Transhumance 2011 Faugères Rouge 75cl

In the mouth
Powerful and concentrated, yet well-balanced. The tannins are ripe and integrated; the finish is long and clean, with lingering pepper and dark fruit. A wine built for food.
On the nose
Initial impression of dark berries—blackcurrant and plum—followed by liquorice and herbal notes. As it opens, white pepper and subtle garrigue emerge, characteristic of the terroir.
On the eye
Deep ruby colour with good intensity; a wine of evident substance.
M. Francois
I have long admired Pierre Gaillard's work in the northern Rhône. This Transhumance is a fine example of his philosophy: serious winemaking without pretension. It would be splendid with game—a hare terrine, or roasted venison—and equally at home with a well-hung côte de boeuf. A wine that rewards attention, and improves considerably with five years in a cool cellar.

DOMAINE PIERRE GAILLARD

Domaine Pierre Gaillard is a wine estate in Malleval (Loire), Northern Rhône Valley. Founded in 1986 by Pierre Gaillard (co-founder of Les Vins de Vienne). Around 25 hectares on steep granitic hillsides. Grapes: Syrah, Viognier, Roussanne. Appellations: Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph. Also producing in Faugères (Languedoc).

FAUGERES ROUGE

In the coeur of the Languedoc, halfway between Béziers and the Montagne Noire, the Faugères AOC owes its identity to a soil that is rare on French ground: layered schist. In red, the appellation blends syrah, grenache, mourvèdre, carignan and cinsault on hillsides swept by sea breezes, delivering minerally, mouthwatering wines built to age. At Halles de Quercamps, we've selected three complementary signatures — Abbaye Sylva Plana (biodynamic), Domaine Cottebrune (Pierre Gaillard) and La Tour Penedesses on its volcanic slopes — to give a sharp, no-frills reading of the appellation. A Languedoc apart, ready to be discovered
