The second wine of Château du Tertre

  • A true expression of Margaux terroir, this cuvée unites the four principal varietals of the appellation—Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot—in harmonious balance.
  • Parcel selection from the finest blocks ensures a wine of considerable structure and depth, yet one that remains approachable and refined.
  • Born from careful vineyard selection, this second wine captures the essence of Château du Tertre's winemaking philosophy without the premium pricing of the grand vin.

In the mouth
Supple entry with flavours of leather and vanilla. The palate is well-structured, with fine-grained tannins and a lingering finish. Excellent balance between fruit and oak.
On the nose
Aromas of dark berries and plum, with secondary notes of roasted coffee, liquorice, and a whisper of cedar. The bouquet develops with air.
On the eye
Dense, deep garnet robe with excellent colour saturation.
Breeding
Aged 12 months in 100% French oak barrels.
M. Francois
I recommend this wine with roasted game—both feathered and furred—and rich meat dishes in sauce. It pairs beautifully with mushroom preparations and firm cheeses such as tomme or aged gouda. A versatile Margaux that rewards a few years in bottle, yet is approachable now.

CHATEAU DU TERTRE

A Fifth Growth in the 1855 Classification, Château du Tertre spans 52 unbroken hectares at Arsac, in the Margaux appellation — one of the Médoc's most coherent single-block vineyards. Founded in 1736, the château sits on a gravel ridge of Garonnaise origin interlaid with glacial sands, a terroir ideally suited to the great Cabernets of the left bank. Since 2021, the Helfrich family, at the helm of Grands Chais de France, has taken on a 25-year stewardship, bringing fresh momentum without departing from the classical rigour the terroir demands. We selected this château for the integrity of its single-block vineyard, the typicity of its Bordeaux assemblage, and the continuity of a classification standing for nearly two centuries.
