Cru Bourgeois du Médoc with rare Carmenère character

  • This wine contains Carmenère, a rare Bordeaux varietal that brings distinctive spice and structure to the blend. Its presence here reflects the traditional complexity of fine Médoc wines and rewards patience in the cellar.
  • Château d'Arche exemplifies the hallmark qualities of serious Médoc crus: fine-grained tannins, elegant fruit expression, and the capacity to develop gracefully over decades. A wine of genuine terroir character.
  • This is emphatically not a wine to open prematurely. The 2000 vintage has evolved beautifully and will continue to develop. Cellaring another five to ten years will reveal further complexity and refinement.

Product features : Château d'Arche Cru Bourgeois 2000 Médoc Red Wine 75cl

Breeding
12 months in French oak barrels
On the eye
Deep garnet with brick-red highlights, showing the colour evolution characteristic of a mature Bordeaux.
On the nose
The bouquet is evolved and elegant, displaying tertiary notes typical of a well-aged Médoc. Secondary aromas of leather, tobacco leaf, and dried herbs complement the fading primary fruit.
In the mouth
Fruit remains present but in a mature, refined register. The palate shows good structure with fine tannins and a long, measured finish. This is a wine of balance and restraint, not power.
M. Francois
A genuine all-rounder for the table. Château d'Arche offers the pleasure of a mature Bordeaux without pretension—the sort of wine that rewards a thoughtful evening. The Carmenère adds an intriguing dimension that distinguishes it from more conventional Médoc offerings. Drink now, or cellar with confidence for another decade.

CHATEAU D'ARCHE

Perched at 70 metres on the highest point of the Sauternes commune in the Gironde, Château d'Arche covers 55 hectares of graves and argilo-calcaire soils — a 2nd Grand Cru Classé since 1855. Founded in 1611 and taken over in 2005 by Philippe Boel, the château has undergone a thoroughgoing transformation: a 2,300 m² eco-responsible winery opened in 2019, HVE certification, organic conversion in progress, and deliberately restrained yields of just 10 hl/ha. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the rigour of its viticulture, the precision of its botrytised wines from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle, and its genuine environmental commitment. A reference Sauternes, rooted in four centuries of history and firmly facing the future.
