A Second Cru of refinement and longevity, from the Quié family's distinguished Margaux holdings

  • This wine embodies the character of Margaux with admirable fidelity. The appellation's hallmark elegance and silken texture are evident throughout, reflecting the terroir of the left bank with precision and restraint.
  • Rauzan-Gassies demonstrates refined winemaking across the palate. The balance between structure and finesse speaks to careful élevage and the estate's commitment to classical Bordeaux expression without excess.
  • The 2017 vintage possesses considerable cellaring potential. This is a wine that rewards patience; a further decade or more in bottle will allow the tannins to resolve and secondary flavours to develop with grace.

In the mouth
The palate displays a well-defined structure with refined tannins and good length. The mid-palate is generous without heaviness, and the finish carries the wine's elegant character with persistence and balance.
On the nose
Red and dark fruits dominate—cherry and plum—with floral notes of violet and rose. Subtle spice and cedar emerge, suggesting the wine's Cabernet structure and oak maturation without dominating the bouquet.
On the eye
Deep garnet, with a lustrous rim suggesting maturity potential
Breeding
Oak barrel ageing for a period of 12 to 18 months
M. Francois
This is a wine for the cellar. Do not rush to drink it. Allow it several years—ideally five to ten—to fully integrate its components. The 2017 will reward patience with greater complexity and a more harmonious expression of its terroir. A thoughtful purchase for those with the space and inclination to age.

CHATEAU RAUZAN-GASSIES

Established on the deep gravel soils of Margaux in the Gironde, Château Rauzan-Gassies is a 2nd Grand Cru Classé 1855 spanning 30 hectares, guided by the Quié family since 1946. Born in 1763 from the division of the great Rauzan estate, the château has maintained a consistent, disciplined style across more than two centuries — its blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc giving full expression to the finesse that defines Margaux. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the reliability of its style, the depth of its gravelly terroir, and its recognition in 2024 as an Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant by the French state. A Margaux of genuine standing, true to its classified rank.
