List of products by brand DOMAINE LECOMTE
Founded in 1995 by Bruno Lecomte in Farges-en-Septaine, in the Cher département, Domaine Lecomte has established itself as one of the most compelling addresses in the central Loire Valley, working across two complementary appellations: Quincy and Châteaumeillant.
A family estate rooted in the Berry
Domaine Lecomte cultivates 13 hectares of vines planted in sandy and gravelly soils — soils that drain freely and lend a pleasing freshness and definition to the wines. This is the Berry, a quietly serious wine country that sits at the heart of the Loire Valley, far from the fashionable appellations of the Atlantic coast, yet producing wines of real character and precision. Bruno Lecomte built the estate from the ground up in 1995, with a clear focus on the Quincy appellation, one of the Loire's oldest designated wine areas and a natural home for Sauvignon Blanc. His son Nicolas joined him in 2006, and the two have worked in close partnership ever since, combining Bruno's experience with Nicolas's energy to develop the estate's range and reputation.
A historic milestone: the first AOC Châteaumeillant vintage
In 2010, Domaine Lecomte achieved something genuinely significant in the history of the local appellation: the estate produced the very first vintage to carry the AOC Châteaumeillant designation, following the appellation's elevation from VDQS status. This is not a marketing claim — it is a verifiable moment in the appellation's history, and it speaks to the Lecomte family's long-standing commitment to this terroir. Châteaumeillant, planted principally with Gamay and Pinot Noir, produces reds and rosés of real freshness and delicacy, quite distinct in style from the Sauvignon Blanc-driven whites of neighbouring Quincy.
Responsible viticulture: Terra Vitis and HVE certification
The estate holds both Terra Vitis and Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) certifications, reflecting a genuine commitment to sustainable viticulture. These are not decorative labels: they require rigorous auditing of practices across the vineyard and the winery, from soil management and water use to biodiversity and the reduction of chemical inputs. For us, this kind of certified, verifiable approach to sustainability carries far more weight than vague claims of naturalness.
The wines of Domaine Lecomte
The estate produces red, white and rosé wines from three grape varieties across its two appellations:
- Quincy blanc — Sauvignon Blanc on sandy, gravelly soils; expect citrus, white flowers and a clean, mineral finish characteristic of this appellation.
- Châteaumeillant rouge — principally Gamay and Pinot Noir; light to medium-bodied, fresh, with red fruit and a supple texture suited to early drinking.
- Châteaumeillant rosé — a pale, dry style from Gamay and Pinot Noir; lively and food-friendly, with the freshness that the sandy soils of the Cher naturally encourage.
Why we have selected Domaine Lecomte
At Halles Quercamps, we are drawn to estates that combine a clear sense of place with honest, rigorous winemaking — and Domaine Lecomte delivers both. The family's role in the birth of the AOC Châteaumeillant designation gives the estate a historical significance that goes beyond the quality of any individual bottle. The dual certification (Terra Vitis and HVE) gives us confidence in the consistency and integrity of the viticulture. And the range itself — spanning two appellations, three colours, and three grape varieties — offers real breadth for the curious wine lover. We recommend these wines to anyone who enjoys the precision of the central Loire, and who appreciates discovering appellations that remain under the radar. At the table, the Quincy pairs beautifully with goat's cheese or grilled fish; the Châteaumeillant rouge is excellent alongside charcuterie or a simple roast chicken.
