Based at Saint-Just-sur-Dive in Maine-et-Loire, Domaine Guiberteau cultivates 17 hectares under certified organic farming across the Saumur appellation, on soils ranging from clay-limestone at Brézé to deep clays at Montreuil-Bellay. Founded in 1934, the estate took a decisive turn in 1996 when Romain Guiberteau — then a law student — chose to return to the family vines. In under three decades, he has established his Chenin Blancs and Cabernet Francs among the most sought-after wines of the Loire. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this estate for the rigour of its organic viticulture, the precision of its terroir work, and a style that balances mineral tension with genuine depth. A Saumur address that deserves the full attention of any serious Loire enthusiast.

Domaine Guiberteau has established itself in fewer than thirty years as one of the benchmark estates of Saumur. From Saint-Just-sur-Dive, Romain Guiberteau crafts terroir-driven wines of remarkable precision — in both Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc — across 17 hectares farmed entirely under organic certification.

A family estate rooted in the Saumurois since 1934

The Guiberteau family has been present at Saint-Just-sur-Dive, in Maine-et-Loire, since 1934. For several decades the estate operated quietly, supplying the local trade without particular ambition for recognition beyond the region. Everything changed in 1996, when Romain Guiberteau — at the time studying law — chose to abandon his academic path and take over the family vines. It was a bold decision, and one that would prove transformative for the Saumur appellation as a whole.

Terroirs of rare complexity across three communes

The estate's 17 hectares span several distinct soil types, each bringing its own character to the wines. At Brézé and Bizay, the vines grow on clay-limestone soils that lend structure and mineral definition. At Montreuil-Bellay, deep clay profiles deliver weight and texture. A third expression comes from sandy-silty soils over a limestone bedrock — lighter in constitution but no less expressive. This mosaic of terroirs, all within the Saumur appellation in the Loire Valley, gives Romain Guiberteau the raw material to produce wines of genuine complexity and site specificity. Yields are kept to a maximum of 45 hl/ha, a discipline that concentrates flavour and preserves the integrity of each parcel.

Organic farming and a commitment to the living soil

Domaine Guiberteau holds organic certification (Agriculture Biologique), a commitment that underpins every decision in the vineyard. No synthetic herbicides, pesticides or fertilisers are used. The focus is on soil health, vine balance and the natural expression of each terroir. In 2024, the estate took a further step forward with the launch of Chai de la Dive, a négociant venture run by Romain's daughter Camille — a sign of a family house thinking carefully about its future as well as its roots.

The wine range at Domaine Guiberteau

The estate produces wines in two colours across the Saumur appellation:

  • White (Chenin Blanc) — dry whites of mineral precision and ageing potential, ranging from approachable early-drinking cuvées to single-parcel wines of considerable depth and complexity.
  • Red (Cabernet Franc) — structured, terroir-expressive reds with fine tannins and the characteristic freshness of the Loire, suited to the cellar as much as the table.

All wines are produced under the Saumur AOC, one of the Loire Valley's most versatile and rewarding appellations for both varieties.

Why we have selected Domaine Guiberteau

At Halles Quercamps, we do not list estates lightly. Domaine Guiberteau earns its place on our shelves for three reasons above all. First, the rigour of Romain Guiberteau's organic viticulture and his refusal to compromise on yields — discipline that is visible in every glass. Second, the diversity and authenticity of the terroirs he works: few producers in Saumur can draw on such a range of soil profiles within a single appellation. Third, a style that is genuinely distinctive — mineral, precise, and built for the medium to long term — without ever sacrificing drinkability.

We recommend these wines to enthusiasts who already have a fondness for the Loire and wish to explore Saumur beyond the obvious. At the table, the Chenin Blancs are outstanding partners for freshwater fish, aged goat's cheese or a fine terrine; the Cabernet Francs shine alongside roast lamb, duck or dishes with earthy, autumnal character.
