List of products by brand DOMAINE YVES GANGLOFF
Domaine Yves Gangloff stands among the most quietly compelling references in Côte-Rôtie. Three hectares of vertiginous slopes in Condrieu, Syrah rooted in granite and micaschist, and an unbroken record of estate vinification since 1987 — the essentials are all present, without artifice.
An Alsatian in the northern Rhône
Yves Gangloff was born in Alsace. It was at Delas Frères, one of the great négociant houses of the northern Rhône Valley, that he learned his craft and developed an intimate understanding of Syrah on steep, crystalline terroirs. He founded Domaine Yves Gangloff in 1982, initially selling fruit before taking the decisive step of vinifying his own wines in 1987 — a turning point that defined the estate's identity.
A family estate, carried across generations
The domaine has always been a family affair. When Mathilde Gangloff passed away in 2011, her daughter Elsa and son-in-law Aurélien stepped in alongside Yves, bringing renewed energy whilst preserving the rigorous, low-intervention approach that had earned the estate its reputation. Today, the three work the vines together across the southern section of the Côte-Rôtie appellation, where the slopes are among the most demanding in the northern Rhône.
Terroir: granite, gneiss and micaschist on near-vertical slopes
The estate's 3 hectares lie on the steep hillsides above Condrieu, in the commune that also lends its name to the celebrated white appellation immediately to the south. The soils here are a mosaic of granite, gneiss and micaschist — ancient metamorphic and igneous formations that drain freely, stress the vine beneficially, and impart a distinctive mineral tension to the wines. The south-facing exposures maximise ripening on slopes where mechanisation is impossible; every operation in the vineyard is carried out by hand. Syrah is the dominant variety, with a small proportion of Viognier co-planted in certain parcels in the tradition of Côte-Rôtie.
The wines of Domaine Yves Gangloff
The estate produces exclusively red wines under the Côte-Rôtie appellation, from Syrah grown on the estate's granite and micaschist terroirs. Each cuvée reflects a specific parcel or assemblage, with élevage conducted with care and without haste.
- Côte-Rôtie (red) — Syrah from steep granite and micaschist slopes; structured, mineral and built for ageing.
Why we have selected Domaine Yves Gangloff
At Halles Quercamps, we are drawn to producers who let their terroir speak clearly and their wines age honestly. Domaine Yves Gangloff does precisely that. The estate's commitment to hand-worked, steep-slope viticulture in Côte-Rôtie — maintained across more than four decades and now shared between three generations of the same family — is a guarantee of continuity and conviction that we find rare and worth supporting.
We list these wines for confirmed enthusiasts of the northern Rhône who understand that great Syrah demands patience. They are wines for the cellar rather than the table tonight: structured, mineral, with the depth that only granite terroirs and unhurried élevage can produce. At the table, we would suggest roasted lamb with herbs, a well-aged côte de bœuf, or a mature hard cheese such as Comté.
