Château la Rousselle has quietly established itself as one of the most serious addresses on the Gironde's right bank: 5 hectares of vines tended with genuine rigour at La Rivière, under the stewardship of Enzo Ide and the Ide family since 2014.
Situated in the commune of La Rivière in the Gironde, Château la Rousselle benefits from a clay-limestone terroir divided between a south-facing plateau and the surrounding hillside slopes. This combination of exposures gives the estate a natural advantage: the plateau captures full southern light throughout the growing season, while the coteaux add a measure of freshness and structural complexity to the wines. It is the kind of terroir that rewards patient viticulture — and that is precisely what the Ide family has brought to it.
The eighteenth-century manor at the heart of the estate was purchased by the Davau family in 1971, who laid the foundations of the château's reputation over more than four decades. In 2014, Enzo Ide and the Ide family took over, bringing renewed ambition and a sharper viticultural focus. Working in close collaboration with Derenoncourt Consultants — one of Bordeaux's most respected advisory firms — the estate has refined its approach in the vineyard and the cellar, consolidating its standing among the leading crus of Fronsac. The result is a château that honours its history while looking clearly forward.
The 5-hectare vineyard is planted with Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the classic pairing of the Gironde's right bank. Merlot brings the roundness and depth that the clay-limestone soils of La Rivière express so naturally; Cabernet Franc contributes aromatic lift, fine tannins, and the kind of savoury edge that gives these reds their character and their ability to age. The technical oversight of Derenoncourt Consultants ensures that decisions in the vineyard — from canopy management to harvest timing — are made with precision and consistency from one vintage to the next.
The estate produces red wines under the Bordeaux appellation, ranked among the finest crus of Fronsac. These are structured, terroir-driven reds built for the cellar as much as the table.
At Halles Quercamps, we have listed Château la Rousselle because it represents everything we look for in a right-bank Bordeaux: a clearly defined terroir, a committed owner, and the kind of technical rigour — here provided by Derenoncourt Consultants — that translates directly into the glass. Enzo Ide has given this small, 5-hectare estate a coherent identity, and the wines reflect that clarity. We recommend these reds to enthusiasts who appreciate Bordeaux that is precise rather than showy, and who enjoy wines with the structure to reward a few years in the cellar. At table, they pair beautifully with roast lamb, duck confit, or a well-aged hard cheese.
