Deep roots in Pomerol

The history of Château la Fleur-Petrus stretches back to 1782. The decisive modern chapter began in 1950, when Jean-Pierre Moueix — the négociant who shaped the Right Bank's reputation — made this château his first acquisition. The estate was enlarged between 1994 and 1995 with parcels from neighbouring Château Le Gay, then again in 2012 under Édouard Moueix, consolidating its position as one of the most coherent domaines in Pomerol. It is today managed by the SC du Château La Fleur-Pétrus within the Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix.

Terroir: graves, iron, and quiet distinction

The 19 hectares of vines sit on the Pomerol plateau at 33–38 metres altitude. Soils are principally graves anciennes — deep ancient gravels, white and clay-rich — underlain by an iron-dense substratum known as crasse de fer, a hallmark of the finest Pomerol terroirs, contributing structure, depth, and longevity.

Parcels face both north and south, allowing harvest at optimal ripeness across the blend. The encépagement is led by Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Château la Fleur-Petrus holds the distinction of being the first château in Pomerol to plant Petit Verdot, adding structural backbone and aromatic complexity rarely found in this commune.

Winemaking and certification

The château holds HVE certification (Haute Valeur Environnementale). Winemaking follows the exacting Moueix standards: parcel-by-parcel vinification, attentive élevage, and a consistent focus on expressing the specificity of this Pomerol terroir.
