Managed since 2002 by the Dubourdieu family on behalf of owner Bernard Leppert, this château produces red and white wines of consistent quality and genuine terroir expression.

A historic property with exceptional soils

Château Haura is the result of the union, over a century ago, of two distinct entities: the Hillot and Haura estates. Together they form a coherent 12-hectare holding at Illats, a commune in the Gironde whose soils and landscape place it firmly in the orbit of the Graves. The terrain is shaped by two distinct hillocks — croupes — separated by a shallow valley, a configuration that ensures natural drainage and a diversity of exposures across the vineyard. Beneath the surface, compact gravel subsoils with low water retention force the vines to root deeply, a natural stress that concentrates flavour and brings definition to the wines.

The Dubourdieu legacy

In 2002, Bernard Leppert entrusted the management of Château Haura to Denis Dubourdieu, one of the most respected oenologists of his generation and a professor at the University of Bordeaux. Denis Dubourdieu was particularly celebrated for his work with white Bordeaux and Graves, and his influence on the style of the château's whites — built on Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc — was considerable. Following his death in 2016, his sons Fabrice and Jean-Jacques assumed responsibility for the estate, ensuring both continuity and the perpetuation of the family's demanding approach to viticulture and winemaking. The red wines draw on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the classic Bordeaux pairing that suits these well-drained gravel soils admirably.

HVE certification and responsible viticulture

Château Haura holds High Environmental Value (HVE) certification, the French national standard recognising estates that demonstrate measurable progress across biodiversity, plant protection, water management, and fertilisation. For us, this certification is a meaningful signal: it reflects a considered, long-term approach to the land rather than a marketing gesture, and it aligns with the values we look for when selecting producers for our range.

The wines of Château Haura

The château produces two colours across its 12 hectares of gravelly Bordeaux terroir:

  • Red — Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot on compact gravel; structured, fruit-driven, with the grip and freshness that gravel soils reliably deliver.
  • White — Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc; a combination that, in the hands of the Dubourdieu family, yields wines of real aromatic precision and age-worthy depth.
