List of products by brand CHATEAU CORBIN

Covering 13 hectares in Saint-Émilion, Gironde, Château Corbin is a Grand Cru Classé whose vines grow on ancient sands over ferric clay, at the boundary with Pomerol. In the same family since 1924 and passed from mother to daughter across four generations, the château has been led since 1999 by Anabelle Cruse Bardinet and Sébastien Bardinet, who have steered the vineyard towards HVE certification. At Halles Quercamps, we have selected this château for the consistency of its Merlot-led reds: fleshy, well-structured, and built for the cellar — hallmarks of the finest Right Bank terroirs. A classic Bordeaux we recommend warmly to lovers of characterful Saint-Émilion.

Château Corbin is a Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion spread across 13 hectares on the northern reaches of the Right Bank, where ancient sands gradually give way to the ferric clays that define the character of neighbouring Pomerol.

Five centuries of history on the Right Bank

The story of Château Corbin reaches back to the fifteenth century, when these lands were part of the fief of the Black Prince — the English-held territories that shaped the medieval wine trade of Bordeaux. That deep-rooted connection to history is not merely anecdotal: it speaks to the enduring quality of a terroir that has attracted serious viticulture for over five hundred years.

The château entered the Cruse family in 1924 and has remained there ever since, passing from mother to daughter across four generations — a continuity of ownership that is increasingly rare in the Saint-Émilion appellation. Since 1999, Anabelle Cruse Bardinet and her husband Sébastien Bardinet have been at the helm, bringing fresh energy and a clear commitment to responsible viticulture without departing from the classical identity of the estate.

Terroir: ancient sands, ferric clays, and a Pomerol influence

The 13-hectare vineyard sits on a gentle south-to-north slope with a drop of some 15 metres, offering good natural drainage and varied sun exposure across the parcels. The soils are principally ancient sands over a subsoil of ferric clay, with heavier clay soils in the sector closest to Pomerol. This geological transition is significant: it lends the wines of Château Corbin a richness and textural density that sets them apart from the limestone-dominant plots of the Saint-Émilion plateau. Merlot thrives here, finding in the clay the moisture retention and mineral complexity it needs to produce wines of genuine depth. Cabernet Franc plays a supporting role, contributing structure, aromatic lift, and longevity.

HVE certification and a commitment to the vineyard

Under the direction of Anabelle Cruse Bardinet and Sébastien Bardinet, Château Corbin has achieved Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) certification — France's most rigorous state-recognised environmental standard for viticulture. This reflects a broader philosophy of working with the land rather than against it: preserving biodiversity, reducing chemical inputs, and maintaining the long-term health of a vineyard that has been cultivated for centuries. The château was classified as a Grand Cru Classé de Saint-Émilion in 1955 and has retained that status, a mark of consistent quality across decades.

The wines of Château Corbin

The château produces red wines exclusively under the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé appellation. The blend is anchored in Merlot, with Cabernet Franc providing the structural backbone.

Why we have selected Château Corbin

We have listed Château Corbin at Halles Quercamps for three reasons that matter to us as a family merchant. First, the consistency: this château produces wines of reliable quality vintage after vintage, without the volatility that can affect less well-established estates in Saint-Émilion. Second, the terroir genuinely speaks in the glass — the ferric clay influence is unmistakable, giving the wines a density and minerality that distinguishes them from more generically styled Right Bank reds. Third, the family stewardship: four generations of the same family, a classified growth since 1955, and a serious environmental commitment — these are the markers of a producer we are proud to represent.

We recommend Château Corbin to confirmed Bordeaux enthusiasts looking to cellar wines of character, and equally to those seeking a structured, food-friendly red for the table. It pairs particularly well with roast lamb, duck confit, or a well-aged hard cheese.
